I have an MSI MS-6160 which provides the following during boot:
A616001 V1.0LX5 121698
61-1210-001169-00111111-071595-440LX-1440L000-H
It doesn't recognise the disk and prevents Auto-Detect from working. I am assuming that I need to update the BIOS to support the larger disk size but am unsure which to use as MSI doesn't seem to provide one.
Can anybody help please?
40GB: MSI MS-6160
MSI has only Award BIOS for this board:
10/20/1998-i440LX-W977-2A69JM4MC-00
W6160MS V1.0 011599
http://download.msi.com.tw/support/bos_exe/w6160v10.exe
Can be patched for HDDs up to 128GB.

The BIOS chip on the MS-6160 is an AMI one. Is it possible to flash the AWARD Bios onto this? I have read somewhere that to do so requires the AMI flash Utility though the package mentioned by Rainbow seems to include the AWARD flash utility but not the AMI one.

It might be possible the MSI standard Bios works on an OEM-Board from Tiny Computers but it's possible it does not work
If you want to try you have to use AMI flash utility
But please try first to enter the HDD parameters manually(values printed onto the HDD or to be found on the manufacturers website) - Cylinder sector and heads + enable LBA
In Bios setup maybe only 8GB are shown but important is what's shown at start-up
Sometimes if IDE HDD Autodetect option in Bios does not work set the port the HDD is connected to to Auto and enable LBA for the drive

MSI packages the Award flasher with the Award BIOS files and the AMI flasher with the AMI BIOS files. If you want to flash Award over an AMI BIOS, MSI recommend you use the AMI flasher. Find an AMI BIOS package and download that. Inside you will find something like aminfxxx.exe - or you could find the AMI flasher separately on the web, or you could try Uniflash (see the link in Rainbow's signature above).brian_the_cat wrote:The BIOS chip on the MS-6160 is an AMI one.
