Hi guys,
I just bought a Western Digital Caviar 80gb HD. Stats being, 7200,2MB, ATA =100, EIDE, OEM. I'm just starting to learn about computers and I'm not quite sure what's going on. I'm not sure if my other master drive is a WD but I'm buying this one to be my secondary. So I switch the jumper to Slave and for a second it showed up in the new hardware icon on the bottom tray but then it went away. I went into My Computer and it's only showing me Local Drive (C). I went under Device Manager and it shows up in Disk Drives and it shows the first one but the second one it shows as some odd name like WDC WD and other things, but it won't detect. If it is detecting than why is it showing up there but not under my computer? I'm quite lost and I don't understand what to do. Please help me out guys. Thank you.

You need to initialize the new disk first, that is partition and format it. Use one partition and format as NTFS.
