The Award BIOS Reverse Engineering Article - [relocated]

The Award BIOS Reverse Engineering article has been relocated
to new site because Yahoo Geocities will be closed about a month away.
The new URL is: Pinczakko's Guide to Award BIOS Reverse Engineering.
I have redirected the old page in Geocities into the new page.

Anyway, dear moderator(s), if you don't mind, please update the URL in the
"The Award BIOS Reverse Engineering Article"
post in the "Collected Wisdom" section because I cannot do it ...

The Award BIOS Reverse Engineering Article

to all moderators, if you don't mind, please put the link to my
Award BIOS Reverse Engineering Article in the collected wisdom.

I don't mean to be famous because of this, I just think that there are lots of people want to read it and might need it. I remember the first time I do the BIOS reverse engineering process, it's very frustrating and no hints at all, it takes a whole year just to ...

USR Courier firmware upgrades

I have an external USRobotics V.34 Courier modem and would like to upgrade it to V.90. USR provides a firmware flash but the modem also needs an enable key from USR to activate 56k and USR no longer makes the key available. I have acquired another external V.90 Courier and would like to extract a copy of it's firmware to try flashing the V.34 modem with in the hope that the enable key will also ...

Article on hacking original.tmp

I have made an article on how to hack original.tmp a.k.a system bios in my website here: http://www.geocities.com/mamanzip/Articles/AdvancedBiosModGuide/Advanced_Bios_Hacking.html. Hopefully can be useful for some of you who might need it. I know that the some of us think this is just an easy hack, but I think some "newbie" might found it useful somehow :D. Thx

Here's something I once remember copying off the ACORP site quite some time ago. I shall cut & paste it as is.

"Tip: Here is a trick to check if your DIMM is single-sided or double-sided -- if there are traces connected to golden finger pin 144 and pin 129 of the DIMM, the DIMM is probably double-sided; otherwise it is single-sided."

Note: the reason for this is that some DIMMs with, let's say, 4 ...

HOWTO: Recycling old BIOS chips for NIC boot roms

I had an idea for a while but was never able to test it until now. My local used computer store has a big bin full of old motherboards for 2$ each. So I thought I could harvest the bios chips and flash them with boot proms. I tried and it worked! Here's what I did.

Flash Chip : 29ee010 128KB 5V Flash
Software : Uniflash 1.30
3c59xcfg.exe (from the driver set on 3com.com)
Compressed ...

Re-setting full drive size

For Seagate Disk Wizard:
Here is the
procedure for checking or setting the reported drive size:
o Load DiscWizard Starter Edition
o Select "Utilities"
o Select "Set Hard Drive Size"
o Select the correct drive ( if more than one drive installed)
o If the "Current Maximum LBA/CYL" is not equal to the "Native Maximum
LBA/CYL" values, change it to the value in the Native Maximum LBA/CYL
number.
This should force the drive to report the ...
