News of My hard drive isn't recognized

I tried to connect a 320Gb seagate SATA drive to 2 different PC's, both have bios's dated 2005, in both cases the drives were not recognized by the BIOS and the POST hung, not allowing the machine to boot up.

One PC is an Abit KV_85 and the other an Asus K8S-LA.

I have Asus P3V4X motherboard with Windows XP, as I connect my WD 160gb hard drive first he can detect it and you can access it, but after several minutes it will hangup and try to install the driver but the computer responds that it will not recognized. Anybody can help?

The board does not recognize a seagate barracuda II ata33 20gb, that is full functional and in a newer pc runs fine.

When i mount on the board an old 1.2gb hd it recognizes this old drive, so i think it is a bios problem.

If you have a HP e-Vectra e-pc c10/s10 and want to connect 2 IDE devices to one IDE port you get the trouble of only the master being seen by bios.
This because HP coded this setting in its bios and it cannot be changed.
For OS installation it is handy to have this enabled due to lack of floppy and slimline cdrom (on some models).

notes:
-in the bios screen it is not regısterıng as seeing the CD/DVD drive
-Changed by new CD/DVD drive still fault is the same
