I still use an older ASUS mainboard P2L97 with latest BIOS 1010 beta 004.
A few days ago I bought a Celeron 600MHz for a very cheap price. This PGA390 Socket CPU comes with a Slot-1 Adapter. During BIOS phase I see an error message:
<Bios:> BIOS update data incorrect (CPUID=00000683). Update not loaded.
Win98SE starts without any problem but every WINNT-based system hangs during startup. Unfortunately ASUS has dropped support for the P2L-series mainboard. ...

I've found that all Award BIOSes dated July 1994 or later correctly support the LBA assisted translation up to the 8 GB limit. There is however a bug in the BIOSes dated before January 1996 that limits the harddisk size display, on the BIOS Setup and boot screens, to 2015 MB.
Whenever a drive is 2016 MB or larger, the display starts to count from zero again. The same happens at 4032 and 6048 MB. ...

I'm sure that I need to use a modified version of UNIFlash V1.25 to write a new 2MBit BIOS chip for my MB in order to enable DMA66 support.

My MB is a Superpower SP-A586B with a 1MBit intel P28F001BXT FLASH ROM BIOS chip. In order to flash the latest BIOS I have to replace the 1MBit chip with a 2MBit chip. I have found surplus ASD AE29F2008 to be available here.

I bought a new BIOS upgrade Award BIOS 4.51 and install it on my computer (PII-266). My motherboard is 2A69JL1A. Before I upgraded my BIOS - I didn't have any problems with my P.C. except the time when I bought a 80gig disk. My computer can't recognize the size of the harddrive. So, I decided to upgrade my BIOS.

Now, when I boot up my computer it's saying that is a PII-133, and ...

I Have a PC Chips M571 motherboard AMI BIOS v1.xx (dated 1998). It has 32MB SDRAM DIMM, don't know the clock speed.

I have just bought a 128MB SDRAM DIMM PC133.

At boot it counts up to 160MB then hangs.

Will a BIOS upgrade cure this problem?

There are three BIOS to download, v30, v32 and v70. I have looked at the pictures of all three motherboards and they appear to be identical.

How do I tell which one is mine?

I am running XP Professional and my system keeps crashing without warning and it is really P*****g me off !

My event viewer gives erros at the time of crash as follows:

heyall...I feel priveliged w/ the 1st message here...and a complete idiot when it comes to puters too!...

anyhow...I want to upgrade the celeron 400mhz , intel 810 chipset, FIC-CW33 Motherboard setup I have for my son's music and design work/play....all the info I can find seems old...but I beleive the FSB automatically will adjust to either 66Mhz or 100mhz depending on the processor requirements...I am running 512mb PC100-133 memory and a 45GB WD-HDrive that works ...
