Samsung HD400LD 400gb only showing 31.4gb

Hello everyone. I'm having difficultly and i'm running out of ideas.

I have an eMachines 8210 Computer. Its fitted with an ASRock P4i65G motherboard. I have recently fitted a Samsung 400gb IDE drive and i've been having problems with it. The drive is only showing up as 31.4gb.

After speaking with some friends, they have advised me that it's more than likely a BIOS issue. Unfortunately, I don't really know a lot about computers. I've been trying to find a bios update for it but I'm not having much success.

I've established this information from the Award Website:-

BIOS Type: Phoenix-Award
BIOS Date: January 7th 2004
BIOS ID: 01/07/2004-I865G-6A79AF0BC-00
BIOS OEM: Version IFN416TM - IFN416TM
Chipset: Intel 2570 rev 2
SuperIO: Unknown
Manufacturer: System Manufacturer
Motherboard: Product Name
OS: Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 2.0
Maximum Memory: 4096MB
Installed Memory: 2048MB
Memory Config: Slot1:512 Slot2:512 Slot3:512 Slot4:512

With this information I went to the ASRock website and downloaded the BIOS update. When I run the exe, I get an error, ERROR: ROM file size incorrect.

I then used Sandra to find out some more info on the motherboard to see if that would help.

Sandra came up with different information:-

Mainboard: First International Computer Inc. P4-865G Series/VL33
System BIOS: Phoenix Technologies LTD IFN416TM

So with this information, I went to the FIC website but I couldn't find my motherboard listed.

I don't know what to do now. Like i said, I'm not that brilliant with computers. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Many Thanks, Nickyboy.

your mainboard is NOT an asrock mainboard. it's a FIC

product page here:
http://www.fic.com.tw/product/motherboa ... 5GMAX.aspx

bios here:
ftp://ftp.fic.com.tw/motherboard/bios/s ... 65g%20max/

check your hdd for a LIMIT CAPACITY jumper. your hdd manufacturer provides a manual if there's nothing printed on the hdd itself.

anyway, even IF the bios reports 32GB windows xp doesn't really care about that. it should be able to access the whole 400GB. the reason is modern operating systems (like Windows 2k/XP SP1 or Linux) query the drive using LBA48 instead asking the bios. so even without a bios update you will be able to use the full potential of the drive.

Please do not use the Bios update linked - it's not for your board.

Your Board uses IFN Bios version indicator but the linked Bios uses IFG version indicator. Your board may be similar but the revision number might be different (usually with some hardware changes like different I/O chip) or you have an OEM-version out of a branded system like emachines.

Edit: This may be your board, a newer version with dual-channel memory configuration and a different Realtek LAN. They do not have a newer Bios available online.

Are Kuriaki's links correct?

I could not find the 8210 model number on the eMachines website.

Thanks.

@Denniss -

I found that site too.

The BIOS files listed there go up to "415", whereas the OP's BIOS is already at "416".

What's up with that?

Thanks.

Something strange with this Bios. Although the version number seems to be higher, ifn416 to ifn415, the Bios release date is over one year earlier than the ifn415, 01/2004 compared to 02/2005.
