bios losing clock speed - help

Postby dll715j » Sat Jun 07, 2008 4:17 pm

I am running a ASROCK motherboard installed with AMIBIOS P1.8 with an AMD Athlon 2.6GHZ processor. Clock speed for the processor is set by motherboard jumpers to 166MHZ. Machine running fine for ages until yesterday bios said clock speed was 100MHZ. When you reset the bios, it goes back to 166MHZ but as soon as you reboot it picks up 100MHZ again.

Whats going on? Any suggestions? I am assuming its a bios problem. Can I upgrade it?

check for bad capacitors
http://www.badcaps.net

replace the bios battery (usually CR2032 lithium 3.0V coin cell)
