Upgrading VBIOS on Microstar board with SiS 661FX chipset

Hello,

I am attempting to update the VBIOS so that my SIS 661FX integrated video card can display 1440x900 resolution.

These are my relevant stats:

Motherboard ID: SIS-661FX-6A7I9M49C-00
Motherboard Name: MSI 661FM
Manufacturer: MSI
BIOS Type: Phoenix Award 6.00 PG
Award BIOS Message: W6540SMS v3.7 092104

I have two questions:

1) Does the award bios message, W6540SMS, uniquely identify my chip? I found a version of the software with the upgraded VBIOS injected into the bios software, but I wasn't sure i twould work for my chip and wanted to be sure.

2) I was going to use UNIFLASH to install the bios upgrade once I obtained the correct version of bios software, but it doesn't look like it's able to detect my BIOS. Can anyone recommend another flash program to update my bios?

award bios flash utility since this is an award bios file?

Have you tried the latest official Bios Version 3.9 ? It's two versions and 6 months newer than yours.

did you manage to get it to display 1400x900?
I have the same issue, even after upgrade to v3.9
