KINGSTON 1GB on Clevo with VIA800 don't work

Postby gevork » Sat Mar 21, 2009 11:18 am

Hi I have a Clevo notebook with VIA800 board with Phoenix Bios.
I have bought yesterday two 1GB DDR2 533 SODIMM cards to upgrade memory. They are working but Windows see only 512MB. Not 2GB. I guess because of BIOS...
Any Idea how it can be solved?
Anyway I searched with BIOS Agent Free its says that there is update availble for the BIOS.
But to have it you must buy subscription for 30 euro.. More as I pay for 2 Kingston RAMs...

What you can suggest?

VIA800? That is not an official typename. What model is the notebook? I have the idea the hardware is not supporting anything beyond 512MB, not the bios.

Hi. Thanks for answer.

Notebook is SwitchBook, OEM Product Assembled in Syria, actually Clevo . Model M655SS.

The Motherboard is VIA VN800. Sorry I have miswritten.
On the VIA site its written that it should support even 2GB,anyway in shop I was advised to take 2 1GB istead of one 2GB. So, What to do?
as I understand from my experience and from some research, The BIOS is old and thats why it doesn't see fully 1GB and don't see both of cards... Any HELP?

P.S. Whith BIOS AGENT PLUS Scan I get This info and that there is an update

BIOS Type: Phoenix
BIOS Date: September 27th 2006
BIOS ID: Unknown-None
BIOS OEM: 2004 Q1
Chipset: VIA 82C314 rev 0
SuperIO: Unknown
Manufacturer: VIA
Motherboard: VN800

http://www.via.com.tw/en/products/chips ... 00_533.jsp

It can handle 1GB DIMMs but your Kingston is not shown as validated.

There's another question, did you buy 1GB modules or a 1GB KIT of modules?
