Please insert BIOS file

Hi,
My PC (S/N 031917720049) has recently stopped booting up correctly. When I turn the power on text reads "Please insert BIOS file".
I do not have any of the disks or litriture that came with the PC. From reading on the net it
seems to be a case of just getting the BIOS file and inserting the disk at
startup is this the case? If so could you please let me know what file this
is and where I can find it? If this is not the case could you please tell
me what the problem is?

Open the case and check for bad capacitors, here you can see what they look like:

Hi Edwin,
I had it all opened out and there doesnt look to be any damage that is visable anyway everything looks as good as new.

Once you have fabricated the bootable BIOS update floppy per the instructions at Packard Bell, did you boot the machine from that floppy?

If that didn't work, is there a file named <something>.ROM on it? If you rename that to AMIBOOT.ROM and put in the floppy, reset the system, it might work.

Hi Edwin,
I cant create the bootable floppy from the PC as it wont start. Is it possible to use a different PC? I thought that what was on the packard bell site let you pull the existing data off the PC but in my case the PC wont start. Is that the way it works??
Sorry for all teh questions its just that I dont know myself.

You can create the floppy on a different PC.

You don't need the actual data from the PC itself, the serial number is indexed so they know what BIOS file to use for it.

While you're at it, replace the CR2032 3V lithium coin cell with a new one as well. Their warranted lifespan is 3 years and your system is past that.
