Widescreen Problems with P4SC and Sony 32" TV

Hi there

I have a Asus P4SC motherboard with has the sis 650 chipset onboard and cannot get above 1024*768 resolution.

I have followed the advice and so far have

Flashed the bios and it is now reporting 1009 beta
The Vbios is showing as version 2.30.01, adapter string is mirage with memory size of 64mb
I have downloaded and installed the uvga3_373.zip drivers

I am trying to use the machine connected via vga to a Sony Bravia KDL32D3000 television, I do not have any drivers for the TV and it shows up as a Plug and Play monitor

What should my next step be please?

unpack the downloaded drivers to a directory. uninstall the currently installed drivers completely (also older versions). reboot the machine. wait for windows to come up again and ask for drivers for a new found hardware. point windows to the directory where you unpacked the driver to.

Thanks for the help, I have done that but it still only gives me the option to have 800*600 or 1024*768

Until I can work it out I have been using the workaround of using the TV to stretch to full screen and then using VLC to play the video with an amended Aspect Ratio to make it the right shape!!

what's the native resolution of the LCD? because of the limitation of the SIS Windows driver there's no way to get real custom resolutions. Get Linux and its excellent 3rd party driver (ubuntu should do) for real custom resolutions.

Looking at the manual it will support a number of resolutions for the PC input, mainly being

800*600, 1024*768, 1280*768 and 1360*768 all at 60Hz

So you would suggest it might be best to try a Ubuntu Live disk and see how I get on with that?

All I want to be able to do is to stream media (divx) from an upstairs machine via wireless adapter (Linksys 54G card) using VLC player onto the tv so dont really mind what the operating system is!!

get the latest Ubuntu LiveCD and give it a try. it should auto-detect everything out of the box.
from the resolutions you listed only the first two are supported by the Windows SIS driver. the others however are technically no problem for the vga adapter but the (SIS Windows) driver just doesn't support them because they are (obviously) not listed in the video bios.
