HP Pavillion ZT1175 gets BSOD x000000a5

Recommended by Wim's BIOS...

This appears to be an ACPI compatability error. I am running M0102 level and will try flashing to M0105 but I doubt there is a fix. This bios is made by: Insyde Software Corp - never head of them myself. What do you think the chances of a patch to this to get Vista or Win7 ACPI able ?

Updated to the IC.M1.05 latest level and tried to too boot Vista or Windows 7 and no dice.

I did not find an "SLIC" in there. Does that mean it cannot load Vista or Win7 ? Anyone know? It runs XP Pro fine.

BTW the Windows 7 readiness checker said it would install. Only low memory of 768MB. (should be 1GB).

I found more details:

when installing either Vista 32bit or Windows 7 32 bit

0x0001000B The length of the ACPI table is not consistent with the table revision.

Maybe someone here knows how to check these values ? Is there a way I can patch the BIOS
to let Win7 pass the ACPI validation ? Maybe this bios has a bad length value and xp
did not care ???

Thanks for the new link. This was an error code I read before. According to that document MS says:
0x1000B The ACPI table signature A pointer to the ACPI table 0 The length of the ACPI table is not consistent with the table revision.
If you cannot obtain an updated BIOS, or the latest BIOS is still not ACPI compliant,
you can turn off ACPI mode during text-mode setup. To turn off ACPI mode, press the F7
key when you are prompted to install storage drivers. The system does not notify you
that the F7 key was pressed, but it silently disables ACPI and enables you to continue
your installation.

Well I tried 64bit and 32bit versions of Windows7 and there is no "text mode" setup when it asks for any drivers. I tried
F7 throughout the initial boot even and right after loading files and "windows starting" appears on bottom of the screen
I get the reported BSOD:

If someone has another way I can set switches for the windows7 setup to bypass ACPI that would be sweet.

Right with you guys there.
I just wanted to let you know you aren't alone in the search for the "0x000000A5" glitch. I've got the exact same setup as described above on an hp pavilion zt1250 laptop. If it provides any support, I am looking to solve the same thing, so don't give up on it.

. I hadn't seen this site before. The way I see it, (an "IMO" or "IMOH" here) something needs to be adjusted in the Windows 7 setup disc and burned again, or something needs to be adjusted in the B.I.O.S. to prevent this little glitch from happening. Just know that you aren't alone!

that is for XP, not windows7.

Is there any type of workaround for 7? Could the startup be modified in any way, or does it need to be done in BIOS modifications?

if you have any acpi option in your bios setup, try and disable that. other than that, so far not seen anyone succeed in disabling acpi during setup.

That particular BIOS setup has almost no options at all in it. I tried changing the two options that you could actually change without breaking anything (CPU Serial number Enable/Disable and External LCD On/Off) and nothing.

So you can't mod BIOS like these?

Nope and according to both HP and Microsoft this laptop is past the sell-by date so don't expect windows Vista or 7 support any time soon/at all.

Too bad. I know it is past the "sell by " date. It was purchased back in 2001, so this wasn't a "recent transaction". I know all the official junk about this n that, but I've seen people run Windows 7 on Joke hardware machines with 200+Mhz Processors and Well less than quarter, half the RAM here. Maybe you understand this maybe not, or other people reading who are afraid to post; I know that Hardware wise, the computer is capable. I'm not trying to run that chunky operating system that came between xp and 7, I'm just trying to run Windows 7. I can't boot the setup DVD because the setup becomes confused.

Anyway,

my question is, why is it that this BIOS cannot be modded? What about all those ACPI things that got pulled up a few posts ago? Can you not mod BIOS at all?
