intel chipset. nothing to patch here.
does you monitor support 1440x900 natively? did you try uninstalling the intel driver completely and reinstalling it after a reboot?

it's an asus VW193D-B, 1440x900 is the native resolution.

it was a fresh xp install, but not with that monitor. i will try a driver reinstall, with that monitor connected.
