I have a 80 GB Seagate HD
My BIOS hangs during the detection of this drive.

Award Modular BIOS v. 4.51PG
ID-String: 02/10/1999-i440BX-W997EF-ATC-6230C-00
Chipset: i440BX

I have found a newer veresion 1.2a on the internet but all the reviews says that it will not work.

If any one could patch it for me please let me know.

Another question please, Can I upgrade my BIOS without losing my data on the HD??

Thanx a lot.

According to Rainbow's patcher, the 256Kbyte version (6230112a.zip) at
http://www.nix.ru/support/drivers.html?group=4&vendor=129 (BIOS ID:12/08/1999-i440BX-W977EF-ATC-6230C-KZ, message ATC-6230 VER:1.1 02 WB) already supports disks over 64 Gb. This is later than your BIOS and as long as your flash BIOS ROM is 256 Kbytes it should solve your problem.

Don't forget you may have to change the UDMA mode of the drive to something the board can cope with - see the ATA mode setting utilities post in the Collected Wisdom forum.
