My son has an older Iwill BX slot 1 board that will not retain BIOS settings. If during POST we go into BIOS setup and make changes and save them it works. If we cold start the computer it Windows will not start and all BIOS settings are messed up.

We have changed the battery! Still happens. Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks
Gary

Here are some insultingly stupid suggestions:
- You checked that any CMOS internal/external power jumper is in the correct position (or is actually there) ?
- You are sure the battery (if it is a button cell) is the right way up ?
- The replacement battery was new ?

Very rarely I have heard of a CMOS/clock chip which has lost the ability to run from a 3v battery, but it's a possibility. Can you identify your chip and whether it is in a socket or not ? If not can you post a picture which would help us to ?
Tested patched BIOSes. Untested patched BIOSes.
