Help finding BIOS upgrade option for PC CHIPS m761 ver. 1.1

I installed a new hard drive on my system for the first time this past weekend, a Western Digital 80GB drive that requires an Int13 redirector in order to access the drive. My BIOS code is:

61-0917-001437-00101111-071595-440BX-M761-v1.1-8671-H

From what I gather, there does not appear to be any Flash files that allow me to reprogram this BIOS, but that's just an educated guess. How do I go about upgrading my BIOS? I'm looking at installing Windows XP soon, and don't know how to work around the Int13 redirector that exists on the drives MBR.

Have checked the site that you suggested. However, the site only has the update code for M761-v1.3, M761-v3.1. The only stuff that the site has for M761-v1.1 is a pdf of the manual for the board, a picture of the board, and jumper switch diagrams for the board--but no BIOS upgrade!?

Does anyone know if the PC CHIPS M761-v1.1 ever had an upgrade for its BIOS, or does this mean that I had to upgrade the whole motherboard?

I think that the v1.3 BIOS should work with your board. ajzchips should know more.

Unless PCCHIPS directly specifies this in their BIOS download page, all V1.x use the same BIOS, and all V3.x use the same BIOS.

If the BIOS mentions _V1.3_, it just means that they posted the BIOS update for the V1.x revision of their board when the latest revision of the V1.x was 1.3.

In my case it would seem that I'll get the Error message:

Old Bios Tag is <761_V1.1-8671> -- New Bios tag is <761_V1.3>

Why didn't v1.2 work as a replacement for v1.1?


Sorry for being a pain about this, but I have no desire to wreck my motherboard--yet I really need to install Windows XP on my system.

If the BIOS tag changes, the utility complains. Some manufacturers changed the BIOS tag with each release of BIOS for the same motherboard, possibly to prevent people from flashing unless they knew what they were doing If the version of Award flasher you have does not let you ignore this, use UniFlash.
