Checksum error defaults loaded

help! i have replaced the coin battery have taken it out and tested the battery to make sure it is charged. ive tried reconfiguering the CMOS settings, ive reformated. ive prayed really very hard to the Mother board fairy.
but my computer will not keep time, and it always says at startup
CMOS Checksum Error, Defaults loaded
NOW you have to turn it off cold to get it to shut down. so it wont retain any new programing or programs installed.

that is what the info sheet for the computer stated. um thats what it is.

ok is there a site that will give me a visual on the proper jumper settings? because that was another thought I had. as to what may be causeing my computers problem.

Biostar M5ATC - manual should be available at www.biostar.com.tw
Tried to install a new jumper replacing your old Clear CMOS jumper ?
There is a little newer Bios patched to support up to 64GB HDD : http://wims.host.sk/
Are you sure the CR2032 battery has more than 3V ?
no broken or bend contacts in battery socket ?
when removing battery tried to short circuit the + and - contact in the socket with a screwdriver ? > Remeber to remove power from your system when clearing CMOS .
Then go into Bios - Load Setup or Performance Defaults and then save and exit .

your a genius that jumper ( Jp4) was lacking the cap completely leaving that set for : Onboard Battery Disabled :
if i had found that link to the manual before id have fixed this, ill let you know, and thank you

ATC0708D i rechecked it and yes that D is correct, still checking out the jumper situation, seems one son may have thought they looked good functioning as something else :cry:

What is stamped on your motherboard...M5ATC Rev. ???

Could you verify the BIOS ID line also (C or L)?

I hope you had a chance to see my POST on this...mine is also in a PIONEX case.

the JP4 jumpers were missing I put it into the 1-2 normal position
the J13 USB Jumpers are missing caps

Looks like we have the same board, but I think for some reason, mine has an error in the IRQ configuration.

(BTW...I loaded the patched BIOS from here to get >32GB HD support, and it works...so if you ever get a bigger HD...

Removing it and installing the previous BIOS does NOT fix my problem...)

Did you get your IRQ data in your very first POST from CTPCI? I am hoping so...and that a *WIZARD* here can verify for me that my board does have a problem...and if there might be a workaround for that somehow...could be the root of my CDROM problems...

I will check my jumpers when I get home and let you know what mine look like, with the exception of the CPU jumpers, since mine has a i200MMX installed.

Are you running Win98SE, and if so, does your CDROM remember it's name in the Device Manager?

Interesting...mine says ATC0708B and not D... and I got this BIOS file from the BIOSTAR site...

My full ID string is 07/08/98-ALi-154x-2A5KIB09C-00.

U5/U14 - See picture on my POST
JP9 - mine has caps, but they are all open (CPU Clock@66 MHz)
JP4 - 1-2...OK (CMOS Battery on)
J13 - is for USB cable to outside world...no jumpers
JP11 - open (Wake-on-Modem)
JP7/6 - CPU Voltage and Multiplier...set acording to your CPU
J15 - CPU Cooling Fan, if you have one connected there
J14 - Header for all your buttons out front, speaker, etc... also IrDA

Download the manual and check your jumpers. If the battery is good (CR2032) and it is installed correctly (you can read the numbers on it), maybe the trace to the CMOS chip is open. But check the basics first, and make sure you are set up correctly for your hardware. Not sure, but I think your CPU jumpers may be off for a real K6-2/266 (2.2/3.3V, 66MHzx4)...make sure you really have one, unless you are overclocking, etc...

Official Biostar Bios usually has a B as indicator .
OEM-Boards usually have D or maybe other letters to indicate the OEM-version for system builders .
AFAIK official Bios is usable on most OEM-boards .
