I need to download the drivers for a motherboard, but do not know what make or manufacturer it is. The string at start up is:

08/07/1999-i440BX-<P3Bf>

Thanks in advance.

Drivers? No. Bios, yes.
If you're not sure why you would need a BIOS update, don't flash.
Flash your BIOS at your own risk.

I don't want to flash the bios. What I am attempting to do, is...
I just fdisked a pc and installed a new OS. Since doing this the colors and pixels are set @ 640 and 16 bit, with no other choices. Last time I came across this was on another machine and I had to use a driver disk from the motherboard manufacturer. On this machine I am working on does not have a cd for the board any longer. Any ideas?

The Intel 440Bx chipset is fully supported from Win98 and higher - no need to install chipset drivers .
But you need to install VGA card drivers .
Even Win95B/C should support i440BX chipset but you might need an update to get AGP-cards to work .

win95b/c needs the inf update for anything beyond the i430tx, this includes all i440xX chipsets.

Ok, i understand the chipset reply and the VGA drivers. My next question is what is the easiest way to determine what make/model is the card, and where to get drivers. Thanks for all the replies so much!

Win98 should have drivers for many cards so it's a new one it does not know or a very old one .
Is the card identified in devicemanger as a soecific card or as unknown or standard VGA ?
Do you have a driver-CD from this card ?
Seems you have to open the case and have a closer look at your VGA card
