Improving system resources

Postby Vincyman » Sun Nov 17, 2002 10:13 am

I have already deleted startup programs I don't need in msconfig.exe. I am still only getting 86% system resources which deplete very rapidly when I use the pc. How can I set my memory cache and increase my physical memory to improve performance. I have a 1.7ghz Pentium 4 upgraded from 128 to 256RAM. Any suggestions?

OS???

System resources are fixed I believe...you can't change them. But 86% is pretty damn good...I assume that is after you boot up fresh.

Best thing to do is load whatever you load and see who the hogs are...the more you run, the less resources you have.

If they get too low, you'll get warnings...plus the system will start acting nasty...best then to shut things down and reboot.

How low are you talking about?

Yes it's 86% after bootup. I used to have 91-93% and resources do drop to 10-20% sometimes. There must be a better way to improve performance, especially with a 1.7ghz pentium 4. I got much better performance on my pentium 100 pc with many more programs loaded.

You drop to 10-20%??? WOW...what are you running? No wonder you grind to a halt!!

System Resources are not CPU dependant...it's part of the OS.

All I can say is shut off what you don't need at the time.
