Mod utilities for ASUS

Recommended by Wim's BIOS...

Hi

that's a very great forum with lot of really good information.

I have an ASUS P4G8X (Granite Bay) and I would like to modify a couple things in the BIOS and activate some items in the BIOS menus.
As I am new in this area, it would be great if someone has details about the structure of BIOS package file, files in it..
I have written a small utility to deLHA all files in it but I am not really sure of what I am going to find in the files...
Are there utilities (like Modbin, Cbrom) that work with ASUS proprietary format ?
Also, how can I read CMOS ?

Asus have a "non-standart" bios-parts format (since CUSL/TUSL began).
"Standart"-format (Award 6.x) have one byte CRC after "original.tmp" and one byte CRC at adress 37FFF (or another - in order of Size_of_flash, this - usually for 2Mbit-flash) - for all stayed place (and files).
Since CUSL/TUSL Asus began to use one byte CRC after EACH "parts" (and no-byte CRC in end of flash - 37fff or like).
Therefore "standard" Award-utilities (cbrom/modbin) will not work with modern BIOS from Asus.
You without ceremony can count it: it`s one-byte "adding"-CRC.

Newer Asus Boards have this Medaillon 6.00 Bios which seems to be more a Phoenix Bios than Award
Have seen this on P3B-F too

P3B-F have "old" 4.5x-"format" with "Phoenix" (Award6.x) Setup Client.

www.biosdiy.net has some asus's bios tool like acbrom,which can mod asus bios.

Too bad I can't read Chinese. Got any idea how to view this thing in English? Babel cannot make heads or tails of it.

I just get errors when I try to download files - I suspect I have to register, which is not easy when I do not read Chinese.

edit: Oh yes, I see in another thread it's 30 USD/year "membership". SO basically Sunbird is spamming ?

yeah you should free register a user to get most of software and documents.only serval software and documents need membership,most of them you can free download.

Surely someone out there must have a copy of the Asus-specific utilities? Seems odd that they're so hard to come by in this day and age of the internet.

I'm a technician in a school and I want to change a few of the default settings in our current BIOS so that we don't have to keep changing things manually when needed.

Any help would be appreciated
