Sony Vaio FX501 - CPU Upgrade

This site has saved me before, I'm hoping someone out there can offer some inspiration again.

I have got a Sony Vaio FX501 notebook (1ghz Duron Processor). Needless to say, I didn't have any idea just how poor Sony's after sales was before I made my purchase. Lesson learned. :x

Anyway, I noticed a drop in speed recently, so I reimaged my machine, then installed a copy of SiSoft Sandra to see what my cpu was running at. My suspicions were confirmed, as I found out that it was only running at 499mhz.

I went out and purchased a 1.3ghz Duron today, however when I install it nothing happens. The power light goes on, and that's about it. I recon this has something to do with a limitation that Sony has put on the Bios. (version R0121K5)

HELP!!!!!

A bit more information guys.

I have just found out that the BIOS is Pheonix based, and the id string is as follows:

3370ce40-3704-11d4-8d22-080046591a43

Thanks in advance.

That is the latest release:

Looks like this bios should support that 1.3:

But then again, there might be something else that has gone awry.
