Greetings

I have an 80 GB Seagate Barracuda (Model:ST380024A) and my bios isnt agreeing with it.

My bios specs are:
BIOS Date: 03/21/2000
BIOS Type: Award Modular BIOS v4.51PG
BIOS ID: 03/21/2000-1440BX-W977-2A69KM4KC-00

Any help anyone could provide will be very appreciated.

Search for i440BX-i440BX-W977-2A69KM4KC

Looking for latest BIOS and HDD support state.....

At least 4 variants exist - Socket 370: MS-6163FC, MS-6163VA, MS-6163 Pro (MS-6163 V2.0) and BX Master (MS-6163 V 3.0), but
your BIOS dated 03/21/2000 should support large HDD.

You should also have a BIOS message like "W6163MJ V2.0 010799" in the top left of the memory count screen - what is it ?

Have you checked that:
- the Cylinder Limit (32 GB clip) jumper is removed
- if you were using it with a jumper or with disk management software, that you've removed the disk manager and re-partitioned the drive with a version of FDISK which supports HDD >64GB ?

What are the symptoms of your problem ?

The message in the top left is W6163MJ V3.50 32100

I know you had to ask the question but the yes the 32GB limit jumper is removed :-p

I was having the same trouble pre and post partitioning of the drive.
The computer is locking up before it finishes initialising the H/D. On the machine in question i cant even get far enough to boot off a disk,
Where as my other machines detect it and boot up fine with it. Thus the obvious thought that it's a BIOS issue.

Hey i've done some more playing around to pass the time.

Still no luck with the 80 gb H\D. It can handle my 40 gb but thats as far as i can get.

Also when checking the BIOS limitations i put in extra RAM for the hell of it and it wasnt able to detect more than 264 MB of RAM.

I've already determined that the 80gb h\d isnt faulty as i have no trouble with any of my newer machines.

version 3.9 and beyond should fix this, you can use 3.a in one step (it has all the previous fixes as well).
