WRONG MEMORY SIMMS OR NOT UPGRADE BIOS?

Postby caligula2003 » Mon Jun 30, 2003 5:51 pm

Hello.
I need a little help 'cos I bought 2 memory SIMMS type PC133 (Pentium III 450Hz) yesterday and I put inside a 'unknown' Zoltrex motherboard (anybody knows it?) and I've have a lot of problems today 'cos I reboot my system and sometimes it works fine, and sometimes do not.
Why? Any Bios problems? Why anytimes can I reebot with all capacity and anytimes do I not reboot?
Thanks a lot.

If you want us to have a clue about the motherboard, you need to give us more information - use BIOS agent and tell us what it says. Do you not have a manual ?

I have not. I lost all manuals and I don't know why. Tomorrow I will send you all the information about my motherboard. Now I'm at work and I can't. Thanks a lot.

My Mem SIMMS are Hynix (type PC133U-333-542), there are a lot of serial numbers on these HY57V56820BT-H; HYM72V32636BT8-H, also 250A, AA-A and CL3. My BIOS Manufacturer is Award and the serial number is 08/25/2000-693-596-W977-2A6LG-SNPC-00 (it seems Soltek). Thanks a lot.

Google search turns up an ID at plasma-online.de - Soltek SL-65FVB. You should be able to find a manual at http://www.soltek.com.tw/English/download/main/65FVB.htm

HY57V56820BT-H is a 32Mx8b chip, so if there are 16 on the module it should be a 512MB module. If you can sometimes see full capacity, that suggests that there's a timing/chipset/RAM problem. You could try running it with slower RAM timing - are you using "Auto" or "SPD" settings ?

No, I can't see full capacity now. I only see 128mb ram of each one.
Yesterday my system worked fine (finally) but only with 256mb (and I've got 512mb switched on the motherboard). Thanks

My question is:
if I upgrade my Bios...
Could I really resolve the problem?.

A Bios Upgrade might help but it's possible it's a Hardware limitation due to some non-standard memory layout on your DIMM
The VIA693 should support 256MBit memory density so a 512MB doublesided with 16 chips should work

the truth is that I've always tought that it's a hardware problem, but I read in some site that the bios has the fault.
