IBM Thinkpad 600E bios mod for processor update

AWUSH036H WLAN USB antenna does not seem to work with Ubuntu on my TP600E. It detects the antenna and AP but no data is going in/out.

The same antenna works fine with Windows XP in the same machine.

AWUSH036H has RTL8187 chip and Ubuntu support for RTL8180 and RTL8185 has been broken in recent Ubuntu versions.
There is fix that I have used for 8180 and 8187, it involves changing some setting in source driver and then compiling it. There was even python script that does this all but I'm not sure about RTL8187.

My both 600E laptops are still going strong and in use.

First one is being used as a home WLAN server running Windows XP /512MB RAM /P3 processor 450@300 Mhz. It has Huawei E220 USB 3G modem and Alfa Awush036H USB WLAN antenna.
This server 600E is pretty special because it has 2 USB sockets, one for the 3G modem and the other is for the WLAN antenna.
Home WLAN server is configured as WPA2/AES security level AP. Power consumption is optimized with running solid-state disk (Transcend 4GB Compact Flash) and processor cooler is switched off after boot. Server is totally silent. Processor temp is about 45C without cooler. Power consumption is around 5-10W depending on the traffic. In the home network I have currently thre Win XP laptops and one iPad2.

The other 600E is running Windows XP /256MB RAM/P3 processor 650 @ 756MHz and it is being used in my hobby garage as a diagnostics computer for cars.
