hmmm don't know why your TP does not change from 66 to 100 mhz. normally the mmc2 module should tell the mainboard what the correct speed is for the installed cpu. I just bought a P111 500Mhz MMC2 CPU on ebay for round about 20€ and 8€ shipping. The mod for turning on/off the onboard 32 memory works fine with my TP.

can't wait to get the cpu and install it.

by the way: i also got a TP 600E 2645-550. perhaps we can exchange informations !? one thing for sure: i will not make use of the fsb overclocking mod. i love my tp too much if it runs stable at 500mhz and a fsb of 100 mhz it will definitely be enough for some surfing....

Propably the best processor upgrade for 600E is 750MHz P3-MMC2.
You will get 100MHz FSB bus and 600MHz operation without mods.

If you need more speed, you can do the SpeedStep mod and with DeepSleep utility you can switch to full 750MHz speed.

Thank's Sharedoc. I have just been given a broken up thinkpad with a 600mhz pentium III so I guess I'll use that. On the BIOS is the 36 for the 600e which is the last one the one to use. Do you have any thoughts.

The best bios depends on the serial number, so use it to check IBM/Levono pages which bios version is the newest for your 600E.

For my 600E the newest bios is INET36WW, and it is good in the sense that it allows to use 256M SODIMM memories.

Very good. That is the same as I am using in my laptop. I received the PIII600mhz today and put it in place. I did not gain much as far a mhz go. I now have about 540 up from 486. I did do the pIIIcache module plugin as suggested by broken case and that plus the pIII upgrade did give me a real performance boost. I need to run it through some of the paces, but all is working well up to now. The first two times I booted I did get a 108 at post but since that has not occurred.

Hopefully in the next two days i'll reveive my P111 500. I hope it runs without any problems with the changed cmos. In the past 2 weeks i held a lot of old TP's in my hands but none of them had the mmc-1 or mmc-2 slots, so i needed to buy one on ebay.

I remember trying PII 366MHz overclocking by forcing the FSB from standard 66MHz to 100MHz using the above method: it did not boot. So I cannot give high hopes for success.

BTW 66-> 100MHz is 50% overclock. Haven't seen 50% overclock done since Celeron 300A times

Is it possible to do this, maka a bus speed up too 100 Mhz and putting 100 Mhz memory stick, without upgrading CPU to PIII?

finally i got my p111 500 cpu today. Just installed it and disabled the 32 megs onboard before. On the first boot there was the 127 error which i got rid of by editing 20 from 00 to 08 like described. XP boots clean installs some new hw components but the proc is only working on 5*66mhz= 330 mhz. It's identified as a P111 Family 6 Model 8 Stepping 10 or A0. The L2 is enabled perfectly with Powerleap, but i want the 100mhz fsb to work. Has anyone an idea how to fix it, or should it really be me who has a "old" TP with only 66mhz support??

My BIOS version is IHET47WW and the machine id is 2645-550

just found out something new

if i edit byte 20 from 00 --> 08 and byte 2b from 80 --> 81 the nb boots without any problems. If i run the Memory test in Easy Setup it breaks up with error

DEV 002
ERR 83
FRU 2010

but the nb boots properly. It's 2 128 MB 133mhz RAM.

Hi,
I have a 770Z that came with the CD/DVD player option. I'd like to upgrade to a CD writer/DVD player. The DVD connector cable does have the now standard JAE-50 connector on the drive side, but apparently the CD industry has now standardized on a connector location that is about 3/8" (8mm) closer to the edge of the drive than on my 770.
I've looked at a 770 CD only drive and it doesn't even have a connector on the drive side the cable is part of the drive, but I've never seen a TP600 CD - how does it connect? I've heard of TP600 users upgrading to more modern drives, is this possible because their drive to motherboard cable is different , ie. closer to the modern standard connector locations, or is there some other workaround?
I'm looking at trying to install a Toshiba SD-R2612 and at the moment all I can come up with is trying to fabricate a short JAE-50 male to female jumper cable - but soldering 100 very tiny pin connections doesn't look too feasible.
