Dear Wim

Bios string is 51-0831-001437-00101111-071595-M571-007_66_M571-H

1437 = Hsing Tech Enterprise Co. Ltd. = PC Chips
M571

PC Chips is as good as useless.
Visited AJZ's website.

Release date has s which means Short block????

There are three BIOS to download, v30, v32 and v70. I have looked at the pictures of all three motherboards and they appear to be identical.

How do I tell which one is mine?

Kind regards Mark

On the top surface in the corner near the keyboard connector there should be a version number. There may be a sticker QC OK over it, remove that so you can see what it is. If no number: first known revision which would be 3.0

Dear Edwin / Wim

Thanks for the tip, it's a v3.2

I tried to update the BIOS, Aaaaarrrrgh disaster!

First I tried using the BIOS update from AJZ's website along with AMIFlash from the AMI BIOS website but this was unsuccessful and I don't think the two were compatible.

Then I tried using the flash/BIOS update program from the Amptron website, it also had a more recent date than the one from AJZ's website. Now my PC is dead.

When I switch it on the lights come on but there is no disk activity and the screen is totally blank.

I had previously installed a Nvidia M64 32MB PCI 3D video card. I think this may have had it's own BIOS because it used to display a message prior to the AMI BIOS messages.

Could this have caused a problem with the BIOS update?

Could the BIOS update have caused a problem with the video card?

I have tried Solution 1 (Boot block BIOS - AMIBOOT.ROM) both with and without the video card, this has had no effect.

Should I buy and install a new BIOS chip from my local PC shop?

Should I buy a new motherboard + CPU from a reputable manufacturer?

Any other solutions?

Cheapest solution would be to find someone in the local shop who reflashes your Bios .

What brand (and model) of BIOS chip does your motherboard have? Is it H.T.?
