CPU Speed Reset

Recommended by Wim's BIOS...

I've a minor annoyance with some AMD systems.

Last weekend we took a power hit. When some of the employees turned their computers back on, it brought them to the BIOS screen. Many of them just clicked through it, and now their processors have defaulted to a slower speed (AMD 1800 @ 1150, AMD 2100 @ 1320).

Is there any way to force the higher speed so they won't have to be manually reset in the future?

Most of the boards are Asus A7V266 with BIOS version:
ASUS - 30303031Award Medallion BIOS v6.0Award Plug and Play BIOS Extension v1.0AAward Modular BIOS v6.0.

Restoring the processor speed isn't a problem. My dilemma is that I'm looking for a solution to permanently set the processor speed (such as hard coding the BIOS or moving a jumper or something).

That is, I'd rather set the processor speed for 20-40 computers once (so they will survive power hits without reverting to default) now instead of manually changing them over and over in the future.

Is there such a solution?

You may be able to use MODBIN to set the 133/266 option as default, and then flash the BIOS with the modified setting.

I'm afraid special version of MODBIN is needed for Asus BIOS's.

For the A7N266 boards the problem seems to be solved. I was able to mess with the JEN, BSEL0, and BSEL1 jumpers to set the CPU speed to 133, and I guess it picked the multiplier automatically.


While trying to make heads or tails of the A7V266-E board dips:

(notice 133MHz and Jumper Free are both 0000) I found out the boards only support up to 1.4GHz anyway. Yet from the BIOS my AMD 2100 auto selects 133 and gives me the option of using 12x or 14x (defaults to 12). This is odd because both net a CPU freq >1.4GHz and I think the 2100 multiplier should be 13x. To top off all the confusion, this is perhaps an abberation as all our 2100s have been reporting in at 1750 or 1320.

Regardless, it doesn't look like jumpers are the way to go with the A7V266-E's.
