Hi,

I retracted an removable harddisk and rebooted.
Then the horror started...
"Award BootBlock BIOS v1.0" appeared as the first rule in the monitor.

It was an BIOS ROM checksum error.

It said to insert a system disk. So I did.
After that I found out that AWDFLASH.EXE is needed for the pc to work.
So, once again I grabbed my second pc and copied the file from the Asus site to a diskette.

*So far So good*

Now it tells me that the source file is not found.
So, for the second time I visited Asus there site and been gone to the download section for the 'A7N8X Deluxe'.
After a little research on the internet I discovered that I have revision 1.04.
No the best, but not the worst.
So, I download 'AN8D1007.ZIP' and extracted 'AN8D1007.BIN' out of it.
Also this file (the .BIN) was copied to the diskette.

Then I put the diskette in my computer to discover that the flash program still couldn't find the file...

After that I looked in the BIOS chip. It said: "AN8X2". So I downloaded the version for the v2.0. With the same result.

My question: Can somebody give me some info how to flash the BIOS?

Just to be complete: I can't get into DOS with a bootflop, so that doesn't work either.

HELP :!:

I think You must have C18D1007.zip utility with the program with the tool awdflash.zip

http://www.asus.com.tw/support/download/item.aspx?ModelName=A7N8X%20Deluxe

If not try the lower biosupdate like 1005 or 1006 or the old one .

Thanks, but I already tried the next ones: (in no particular order)

    aw1001c.zip
    AN8D1007.zip
    C18D1007.zip
    C18B1007.zip
    A8NC101D.zip
    AW1001E.zip
    C18X1009.zip
    AN8B1007.zip
    1007d_r1.zip
    1007d_r2.zip

With that, I have tried the AWDFLASH.EXE v8.24B

Edit:
I quote from my BIOS chip:
AN8X2 1001.C
684E
GM G16

The BlockBios stops everything.
You (I mean: I) can only put a diskette with AWDFLASH.EXE in the drive, or else it's invalid.

This is the 'savegard' of Asus.

An nice addition is the fact that the board was on a bargainsale... Without extra's...

But it would be very nice if you could e-mail me the biosfile that is on your cd. My e-mail address is warhead_8472@hotmail.com

Thanks, I will take a look as soon as it's arrived.

Edit:
Nope, still nothing. But this one was expected... It was a different version.
Well, I hope my e-mail to Asus does some work for me.

I will post any updates.

Hi!

How about having an AUTOEXEC.BAT on the booting diskette with just
one command in it, for example xxxFLASH.EXE xxxxxxxx.bin, noting
that the .bin should be exactly the right one for that mobo ...

With this .bat the diskette should boot and do the flashing automatically.

Regards,

Pete V.

Try awdblock from here http://www.wimsbios.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=4211
It's fake awdflash that will boot from the floppy and you can flash manually then.

I have not come across before that a system will require a boot disk with AWDFLASH.EXE to boot.

I would try the following to be sure.

1) Disconnect all drives and drive cables completely except for your floppy drive.
2) Make a basic system disk under Windows 98 on another system by formatting a good, spare disk using the format utility and copy system files option.
3) Test this boot disk.
4) If the boot disk boots fine in step 3, try it on the machine you are describing.
5) If the boot disk does not boot in step 4, see if you can enter BIOS setup, load defaults, check the boot sequence to make sure drive A is listed and is first, then exit setup saving the new settings.
6) Try the boot disk again.
7) If step six now works, you do not have a boot problem requiring AWDFLASH.EXE. Try reconnecting your primary HDD and if it does not boot the boot information on that drive has a problem.

If you cannot boot with a boot disk after trying the above, I will then be more convinced of your situtation.
