I have a winbond motherboard(877F) with Award bios. My bios string is:
10/16/97 i430TX,W83877F-2A59IM2AC-00.
When i insert an ISA vga card, the computer boots up normaly,
but when i insert a PCI vga card i only have a black screen (nothing on my monitor), but i can hear the system boot up. When i boot up with the ISA vga card, and the PCI card also inserted, windows98 finds new hardware ans installs the PCI card, but there is still nothing on the monitor, when switching to the PCI card. The PCI card is tested in another computer, where it works ok. :( Pease help me!! :D

What PCI video card is it? Old motherboards sometimes can't handle PCI video cards with > 32 MB of RAM on them. I have an ASUS TX97-XE and it can handle a GeForce 2 MX with 64 MB of RAM (8 chips) but can't handle any other 64 MB video card that has less than 8 chips.

It is a 233mhz computer. I have tried with a s3 4mb pci, and a matrox millenium II (4mb9, wich both works fine in my 500mhz.

Interesting georgep...

What in the motherboard design could cause this? I would think that the video card, being a seperate entity, would not be bound by the rules or the motherboard design (ie: chipset memory limitations, etc...)...

I did have a problem with compatibility issues between Gigabyte BX based mobos and SIS chipset based PCI VGA cards, which involved the screen not initialising sometimes and this was solved with a manufacturer BIOS update.

KachiWachi,

Sorry I didn't see this when you posted it. This was talked about a little in the following thread.

http://www.wimsbios.com/phpBB2/viewtopi ... video+64mb

and in the asus mainboard newsgroup. alt.comp.periphs.mainboard.asus

No one came to any firm conclusions.
