Keebler,

Denniss is right. You're probably running an old BIOS version without K6-2/-3 support. You can see the version of your BIOS in the sign-on message on the BIOS boot screen. It is something like (55XWUQ0D). I've downloaded the latest HOT-557 BIOS versions from Shuttle's web-site and they appear to have support for the K6-2/-3, only these CPUs are indicated as "AMD-K6(tm)" but this is just cosmetic.
I found two different BIOSes for the 557:
- (55XWUQ0E) this BIOS is for the HOT-557 Ver. 1.32
- (55XWSQ0F) this BIOS is for the HOT-557 Ver. 1.5
So you need the version (55XWUQ0E) BIOS and it can be downloaded from ftp://ftp.shuttle.com/BIOS/557/
In the zip you will find the flash program and instructions.

Note that the K6-2 is a 2.2V CPU (except for the 2.4V K6-2/450AHX). I have been searching for a way to get below 2.5V Vcore on the HOT-557 but was unable to find any clues. So, if you have the 2.4V K6-2/450 AHX you can run it at 2.5V. This is still within the limits for this CPU.
For the 2.2V K6-2 CPU, you will have to use a voltage regulator adapter.

Finally, the HOT-557 doesn't have a third BF2 multiplier jumper, so you are limited to 3.5x75 (262.5MHz) on the K6-2. However if you have a later K6-2CXT CPU, you can use the x2 setting to get 6x75 (450MHz) maximum.
All K6-2/400 and faster models have the CXT core.

Greetings,
BiosMan.
