when u say:

It looks like you have to have your flashrom chip externally reprogrammed.

how do they do this??
Is there no way that I could do this by myself at home??

You need an EPROM burner.

Ask your local computer shop whether they have a burner or a new flashrom to sell. Very often Bios flashroms are offered at Ebay and similar sites.
