I just reinstalled WinXP home edition, but now when I boot the PC is doing something strange. Before ever getting to the Windows logo screen, I see a white dashed bar across the bottom of the screen. Gradually this is filled by a solid bar. So this appears to be some sort of status.

I'm not sure what the PC is doing or if there is a setting to turn whatever it is doing off. It takes approx. 5 mins for the bar to completely fill and for the machine to fully startup.

Any help is greatly appreciated, and if this is not the correct forum for this topic please let me know.

I am running a Dell Dimension 4100; 1 GHz; 256 MB ram

Thanks,

MjrHole

Time for defragmentation I think. And get some anti-spyware programs like Lavasoft Ad-Aware and Spybot Search&Destroy

Do not assume anything

System error, strike any user to continue...
