I know older motherboards struggle with newer RAM. Does updating of BIOS fix this issue sometimes? I have BIOS version 1009 and have found one newer, BIOS version 1010_04. Would there be an improvement with the newer BIOS? By the way, I have one stick of 512MB and only 256MB is recognised.

Thanks KURIAKI,
It does state that each slot can support 128MB RAM, however I have one 512MB RAM module in one slot, and it shows as 256MB in my system. I assumed that was because of the updated version 1009 BIOS. Any other explanations? What improvements would the version 1010_04 BIOS bring?

i440LX should support 256MB memory sticks. The newer Bios adds native support for HDD up to 128GB, maybe some minor fixes not documented.

The LX chipset does support double-sided 256MB sticks. I have 3 LX boards with such sticks working just fine.

It's the same limitation the i440BX has - double-sided, 16-chip, 16x8-organisation sticks of any speed grade will work.

Thank you guys. I have not checked, but I'd say my 512MB stick is single sided. Anyway, no need to chage BIOS to version 1010_04 then.

Danke Schoen & muchos gracias.
