The following HP Pavilion and Compaq Presario models appear to be failing during the BIOS update resulting in a dead system.

I highly suggest you do not attempt to re-flash or update the BIOS in the following models:

ZE4000 series (all models within the series)
ZE5000 Series (all models within the series)
ZE1000 Series (all models within the series)

Presario 2100 (all models within the series)
Presario 2500 (all models within the series)

The flash ROM is not to blame, usually it's re-programmable. I would imagine this failure is more than likely related to the flash utility.

If you find yourself with a dead laptop after the flash, you can contact me for additional info on getting this repaired.

Hello,

Lately it appears that the following compaq model also suffers from this BIOS flash failure.

NX9000 series (all models)

Avoid unnecessary BIOS updates with this NX 9000 series as well.

Presario 2110us and the ze4200 bios

Postby scott42086 » Wed Mar 22, 2006 6:01 pm

I tried it and HP confirmed you can use the HP ze4200 bios on the presario 2110us since they are the same PC. The latest winplash one for preario is 1.58 at least this way you can get to 1.60.It works great i had no problems i just thought i would share with you all. If your laptop is dead make a boot block and try this. The service pack is available from ftp.hp.com and it is sp30514.exe

Is there any way to falsh this stuff?
I'm not shure is it a flashing program/util problem.
I've done many flashing that ended with black screen.
winphlash restarts the pc just in moment of flashing.
This haven't damaged my bios, but any edition (in ph. bios editor pro)
resulted in reboot. so i've flashed from dos.... beeep beeep reeboot while flashing block 7 (so close to an end...) ok turn on pc blank...
next - usb flopy:
after having the orginal bios loaded i thought maby it' a program problem...
ok let's do another crisis disk:)
after crisis flashing with edited bios in editor ( this time no hex changes to check if it is working - only changed network in multiboot III) -> result: black screen

WhaT to do NoW?

I think it is some kind of blocade.
I've almost forgotten: bios update was going without any errors in even in winphlash....
