Correct BIOS for DFI NFII Ultra Infinity

Recommended by Wim's BIOS...

I've had problem with my PC and I've tried pratically everything...

I've decided that a BIOS flash may be my last option...

Where do I get the lastest BIOS for a DFI NFII Ultra Infinity motherboard?

Best utility to use?

Sorry, I'm new to this - which one best suits just a BIOS upgrade? there are a lot of updates on that link...

Is it a fairly risky thing to do? Or is it relatively safe?

Well, I used the DOS based one, but didn't re-name the new BIOS (found this out aferwards...) so after the flash, and a reboot - NOTHING!! Not even a BIOS screen...

I removed the battery from the motherboard and left out a few minutes, put it back in and started up - Back to origional BIOS now... Windows loads fine, but my antivirus expired!! Does a battery removal remove any subscriptions to software?

Allowing for the fact that my mistake was NOT renaming the revised BIOS at FLASH, if I do it again will it work?!

Removing the battery caused the CMOS settings to be reset, including date and time. The antivirus is probably confused by the date going backward

OK - I've reinstalled antivirus and alls well now.

I'm still stuck with my old BIOS.

PROBLEM:
After I create my boot disc from the files recommended above, the instruction reads that I will be prompted to re-name the BIOS to the new version, but I can't enter any info, it just moves on with the flash...

So it could be overwriting the old BIOS with the new causing a conflict.

Are there any windows based apps that will do the same, and are a bit more idiot proof! The 'windows based BIOS' linked above prompts me for a floppy - so I assume its NOT windows based and just another Dos Boot Disc creator

You're right, is not a Windows-based upgrade, sorry. It's a disk image.

I've used the DOS based flash linked here TWICE and had to change the battery after each time...

There's no mention of re-naming the BIOS file in DOS in the instructions of your link, so I did it right. Must be the wrong BIOS...??

As I said before, Is there a stable / reliable WINDOWS based BIOS updater?

Also, If I boot from the floppy, I'll NEVER get a DOS prompt! It'll just run the app!

Download the latest WinFlash utility as recommended (at the link above) here:

http://www.dfi.com.tw/Upload/Driver/WinFlash-875Inf.zip

Unzip and run the WinFlash utility with the matching BIOS and you should be back in business. There is a Help file in the zipped file as well.

When I UPDATE BIOS within winflash which file do I point to when prompted?

Depends on what file or filename is needed. If Winflash wants to load the new Bios then point it to the uncompressed new Bios file. It may ask you to enter a name to save the old Bios, just use oldbios.bin for this purpose

What should I do when there's error message of "BIOS ID error. Are you sure to program?" upon flashing BIOS with "Winflash" or "Radarsync"?

Answer :

Please click "No" and quit the "Winflash" or "Radarsync" if you faced the warning message of "BIOS ID error. Are you sure to program?" upon flashing BIOS. We suggest you using "Diamond Flash Image" to flash BIOS, instead. If you still prefer using "Winflash" or "Radarsync", please remove the original version and re-install the version downloaded from URL http://www.dfi.com.tw/Upload/Driver/WinFlash-875Inf.zip.

If you click "Yes" and keep on program, you will face "BIOS ROM Checksum Error" and the keyboard will freeze. If this symptom already happens, please check with regional retailer or distributor for RMA service for replacing BIOS ROM. If you can replace BIOS ROM by you yourself, please send request along with address and contact phone number to following e-mail addresses. Upon replacing BIOS ROM, please watch out the identification of pin#1.
