A support e-mail from Makemusic.com has instructed me to "permanently disable Modem Line #0 through the Windows settings before Windows Starts up." I have never dared touch my BIOS. Dare I try this? Is there a good manual on the subject? Most grateful for any advice.

I would ignore the advise.

The advise is from one website. Your modem works with many websites and other parts of the Internet.

Unless there is a good reason, I usually leave most modem settings on default.

Note also that you reported the advise to "permanently disable....." through the "Windows settings". This is not the BIOS. I'd say they are talking about the modem configuration in the Windows Control Panel. And if your not confident enough to touch this, stay even further from the BIOS.
