Hi

I have a Medion PC that has some of it's bios features password protected.

The normal bios access is available and not password protected..

However pressing F11 shows a password protected area, this is what I'm trying to access..

I'm looking at changing the memory in the PC, so will need to change memory timings, these settings are in the restricted area..

Does anyone know how to access this area of the bios... ??

Many thanks...

Hi.

I registered to the mentioned Aldi / Medion forum.
Now, I would need a BIOS backup file.

Hi.

In the Aldi / Medion forums, I reached that two persons could build a BIOS backup file and a snapshot.

http://medion.adslweb.co.uk/phpbb2/view ... hlight=f11
(The forum is not public, but it is no problem to register.)

Well, here are the files:
snapshot

MD8800 BIOS file
http://docze.free.fr/awdbios.bin

Inside the BIOS file, I could locate the string:
"Press ESC to Continue:"
...but it is not part of the binary BIOS part.
No, it is part of the global string list module.

So, decompiling/disassembling or finding the
"F11 key checking and password screen routine" is a litle bit difficult.

I also once owned an Medion MD 90012 with the same problems.
Pressing F11 -> Password required.
I spoke to the Person at Medion who knows this password about 1h. He didn't tell it to me. He is afraid that this Pass will get public by internet-forums, and so people that don't know much about pc's will make some changes so that the machine don't work properly and they return it in waranty-time to medion. So Medion will have a lot of work more.
As he said there are just 2 people at medion who knows this password.

In my case there was an option to disable "only boot from Medion-CD" that i wanted to disable, so i can install Linux on it. --->

No Password, No boot from other CD's, NO MORE MEDION !!! :D

KURIAKI, it would be suitable to read and understand what you read, before you reply.

Your previous post and the mentioned link has absolutely nothing to do with the current problem.

Hi.

There are news.

The password is: "am8888egh"

Attention!!!

Because the password has been published, Medion will surely offer "new" BIOS updates.

The "new" BIOS updates will either have a completely not user-friendly BIOS Setup Menu
or the "new" BIOS updates will use another password.

So, it is recommend to backup your current BIOS before you update your BIOS.

there are no passwords within a bios file (except master passwords, but i hope that award wouldn't be that stupid anymore).
