i have a pentium II machine with 10 gb hdd; i have recently got a 40 gb hdd and i found it works only when i put the jumpers to limit it to 32 gb;

my bios string is 01/28/1999 - i440BX-W977TF-2A69KJ1CC-00
i went through most forums, downloaded the bios agent; they identify the motherboard as jetway with j7bxas/bxan

so i opened the machine and found j-7zxan printed bold!
and now i come across another brand j-mark; are the the brand same?

also in supportbios.info i find that the jetway bios is patched for 128gb and the binary file is 7zxasc01.bin

i have downloaded from kuriaki.hasit all the related files; but i am not sure which one to use; any help?

hi guys!
one more question,

i have also another old motherboard that ran a pentium-r (before pentium II) (intel original with award bios); actually this motherboard was removed and the jetway with pentiumII was put in the cabinet.

i removed the bios rom from this and inserted into the newer board; but the machine didnot boot up; why? does the bios "expect" the particular mother board; in otherwords, can one use the bios rom from another board?

may be a silly question?

thanks for the zip file;

while trying to flash it through a floppy, i get the message to "enter the name of the rom file"; after entering the name it gives a beep and a flash message "bios protected" and then the machine reboots; should i change the jumper settings in the mboard/ (at present it is in 1-2; where as the manual lists 2-3 as normal and 4-5 as clear cmos.

HELP Needed urgently! mr kuriakj.

i did the flashing of the bios with the patched beta version given; the flash went well and i got the message " Please remove the floppy and press F1 to reset"

accordingly i removed the floppy and pressed F1 and the MACHINE RESTARTED WITH WHIRRING SOUNDS AND BLACK SCREEN OF DEATH; i tried using a ide s3 card for video instead of the original intel video agp card; but still of no use;

how to recover now; i have done the back up of the original bios in a file called oldbios.bin; i used the tiny
switch and the file is about 300 kb!
when i restart the machine, i get a long beep followed by two short beeps

can i reflash the original bios ( the 300 kb using an autoexec.bat file?) if so what is the procdure?

desperately waiting to know if something can be done! as i believe the machine boots with key board lighting up initally and the drives being idenfitied (with their lights) and boot floppy whirring and then the long beep with two short beeps! (as far as i can recognisw!)

i just tried to flash the backed up bios; no use;
also tried the bin file in ur ftp; still of no use!

hmm! which can cmos clear jumper of any use? i dont think i can do hot flash unless i use somebody's computer; even then what bin file shud i use?

can an isa video card be of any use?

can you please post the meaning of the long beep and the two small beeps?

1 Long, then 2 Short Beeps: Video error
Explanation: The BIOS is unable to access the video system in order to write any error messages to the screen.
Diagnosis: This is usually caused by a problem with the video card, or the memory on the video card. It can also be a motherboard issue.
Recommendation:Troubleshoot the video card.

An ISA video card can make miracles yet.
And try clearing the CMOS too.

What Award flashprog did you use ?
Did you use a clean Bootdisk without any memory manager loaded ?
Did you use a newly created bootdisk ? Full format and not quick format.

Your problem might be caused by your flashprog, a backup bios is either 128, 256 or 512KB but not something in the 300KB area

good morning!

thanks for the two messages mr k and mr d! but i went through the faq once more to do the "blind" flashing using auto exec file.

first answers to ur questions:
aa) i used the dos 6.22boot mgr disk (io.sys, msdos.sys and command.com only); it is a full formated system diskette with sys transfereed by format a: /s command. i booted both the desktop and laptop to check it is ok.

bb) i used the flashprog given by mr k in his zip file;

cc) when i did the flash first time (using awdflash *.bin oldbios.bin /sy), the backup file was more than 1 mb and the disk went full and the flash stopped; so second time i used the /tiny switch and got the file size at 306 kb. ( i had a hunch that it is nor written correctly as when i tried to "blind flash with this file, it did not restart the machine; see below)

dd) i did disabling of video ram shadowing as well system and video bios caching before the flash ( they were originally enabled)

regarding the blind flashing:

i knew the machine is booting because of the reqular POST beep sound; i also understood fromt the beeps it is something to do with the video card; i am using an intel AGP video card with 8 mb ram with its own driver. the card is in the agp slot; i removed that and used the S3 ide/pci video card but still there was no video display;

when i used an autoexec.bat file to "blind" flash the backed-up bios; it again gave all the whirring showing that the bios is being flashed and the floppy went silent after quite sometime; but the video didnot come alive

i tried the bios from the archive of mr k (inder jetway 7zxan;) i used both files one after another ( 7zxasc01.bin zxas2d01.bin) though they also seemed to be flashed; video didnot come on rebooting; i think the file are for 7zxas board which has onboard sound and video;

i finally went to the j-mark.com page and downloaded the 7zxanc01.bin dated 28/1/99; did the auto blind flashing using the autoexec file; voila the machine is on.

but windows didnot come up after booting; i went back to the cmos/bios setup and enabled the video ram shadowing aswell as system bios and video bios caching; and the machine is back to normal. with 32 gb ofcourse!

mr k and mr d; thanks; may be u can retry the patching using bios file at j-mark.com (may be it will work!?)

tonight i am planning to re try the flashing in more structured way; i am first going to hotlfash the bios into the previous motherboards bios chip so that i will have a back-up;
will write on the outcome

i finally went to the j-mark.com page and downloaded the 7zxanc01.bin dated 28/1/99; did the auto blind flashing using the autoexec file; voila the machine is on.

Is the same file I had used to patch.

i just re-attempted the flash; the results are:

1) this time i didnot disable the video ram shadowing or caching; when i tried the file from kuriaki, the flash went well but the machine didnot see the video;
2) i remembered seeing the 7zxasc01.bin as a bios patched for 128 gb; so i tried to flash that and voila the machine started with video.
3) i removed the 32 gb limit jumper fromt the hdd and the machine booted without hanging at auto detection of the hdd; ONLY THING IS WINDOWS DISPLAYED THE CAPACITY AS 37.9 GB; ( MAY BE I SHOULD MANUALLY SHOW THE SIZE?)

upshot of this long exercise is as mentioned in your supportbios.info the 128gb patch is already a working bios for j-7zxan ver 2.1 mobo.
