Hello guys,

Question 1:
I am interested in the possiblity of recoding an Award 4.5 Bios to 6.0 Bios ? Is this possible ? If yes, on what it depends ? Chipset, Hardware Layout and so on ? Does anybody of you knows it ?

Question 2:
Is anybody of you able to write a Bios ? Means really coding such junky things ?!

Sincerely
CeFa

Long story short: No, can't be done.

Hi Soupa,

time permits only very less time to use the Internet, that's why the respond is coming now.

Okay, you say it's not possible, but I want to hear the reason why ?
You don't have to describe it in details, but a "no" isn't enough for me.

And is there somebody here inside who could code a Bios ?

Thanks in advance.
Cefa

Do you mean is there anyone here who currently has the original source code for Award BIOS 6.0? Hm, very doubtful.

One of our associates, Peter, is an x86 BIOS developer, but he hasn't been around lately. We have a few other associates who are talented programmers, but they've never mentioned writing a BIOS from scratch.

So, unfortunately, it looks like the long answer is 'no', as well.

Hi,

thanks for the answer.
Do you know how I could contact "Peter" ? Is this his nick here in this forum ?
And I don't mean at least having the original AWARD 6.0 source code.

I would do the job, if I would know how I have to set the registers and the other junk ! 8)

I mean I have a source code (an Award 4.5er) and ths should be recoded, because it's a bit buggy.

I know the issues, know how to solve them (most possible) but don't know how to do it !

Would be nice, if I could contact "Peter" personally.

And tell me please, we suppose we have an "old" mainboard with Award 4.5 PG Bios and we want to write a complete new one but after restrictions of Award 6.0 Bios.
Does this depends on the chip, meaning the EEPROM ? Because the size is equal, 256 Kbyte (2 MBit) ?

Best regards
CeFa

I don't have his email, and I don't know if he re-registered when we moved to the new BBS.

I'm not entirely sure what you're after, here. You want to write a new BIOS, or modify an existing one?

It depends on what I can do ?

But can't you simply answer my last question ?
Is a 4.5 or 6.0 Award Bios hardware chip dependent ?

Sorry, I don't want to be impolite.

Any ideas how to find Peter ?
Have you an idea where to find GODD stuff concerning Bioses ?

Best regards and thanks a lot soupy.

Presumably you can put a BIOS in any compatible chip, as long as it fits. So obviously you can't replace a 1mbit 4.5 bios with a 2mbit 6.0 bios in the original chip.

Okay, that's the thing I wanted to know and what I assumed.

Now the only thing is to find "Peter.

Greetings
