HEEEELLLPPP!!

I'm trying to make my dads PC a better machine so I decided to format the HDD and install a fresh OS and firewall, AV etc.

Well then I discovered that he only had 32Mb in it. So I bought some PC100 installed it and ehm the BIOS sees it but windows doesn't soooo.... I gave up on Win 2k and dug out and cleaned up my old NT4 CD and it only sees 32Mb, and if I take the old 32Mb SIMM out the BIOS sees the 128Mb or 64Mb SIMM (I have a 128,64, and 32 and 2 slots) but windows says "0k base memory need 512k to install".

Tried PC Linux OS (as it's a single CD and theres no DVD ROM drive in the machine) but it wont boot! The installer does manage to load the kernel even with just a single 128Mb SIMM installed.

Ideas please. HP BRIO BA Model D7594A Celeron 433

I downloaded the "latest" BIOS from the HP site "HX 07.08 QHX.08.00" Phoenix BIOS 4.0 Release 6

Is there some generic BIOS I can flash on the board instead? The POST reports all memory but OSs don't see any more than 32Mb!

Help me please :)

Hmmm the working 32Mb Modules are 4Mx64 and the non working 128Mb module is 128Mx4 ....could this be the problem?

PDF lvp08047 says this machine comes with 64MB SDRAM 100MHz, and they offer kits ranging from 32->128MB non-ECC, and a 256MB ECC kit.

SiS 620 chipset?

I've found the solution... I bought some more memory this time x64 type stuff and it works fine. I only bought another 128Mb which isn't a lot but I've spent enough on this especially as my dad never uses his PC! He just wanted a nice clean working install and he finally has it :)

Thanks guys,
Fairy
