need lots of help

Recommended by Wim's BIOS...

i have heard from my pc helpdesk (siemens)
that i could download a exe file witch helps me to see if my bios setting were right.
but i dont know witch one that is.
i had a big virus in my pc and now it stops everytime if i have internet on for more than a few hours.
i already cleaned up my harddisk with fdisk but it still doesnt work right.
so someone from my provider said to me that maybe my bios isnt set corectky anymore because of the virus

Your English is pretty good.
If the helpdesk thinks that there is a program which can check your settings, they should tell you what the name of the program is. Otherwise they are no help.

If:
1. your PC works for several hours at a time
and
2. you have an up-to-date virus checker which does not report a virus

then I think it is unlikely that there is much wrong with your BIOS settings or that the virus is still affecting you. I think you should consider the possibility of hardware faults. Try checking your memory, for example, with a programe such as memtest86 http://www.memtest86.com.
Alternatively, if a change has been made to your BIOS which is causing intermittent crashes, try changing your RAM access speed from higher to lower. Sometimes the BIOS has an option allowing setting "default" or "safest" settings. Without knowing exactly what hardware you have it is difficult to advise, but I think your helpdesk should help you more than this.

I know this seems like hard work, but the following would help us get a better idea of your situation.
- What *exactly* is your machine ?
- If you are getting tired of this problem, can you get the supplier/maintainer to fix/replace it under warranty/contract?
- What exactly have you tried so far and what were the results, e.g as Rainbow says, memtest didn't work - what happened when you tried ?

i will start with giving you a full description of my problem.
my pc falls out and starts over on his own.
and a lot of thimes we get a blue screen with an error ore just a blue screen with a little grey cube in it.
the more i do on the internet the faster it appears.

my pc is a fujitsu siemens with amd athlon prosesor 100mhz
30 gig hardisk and 128 mb ram

we have tried erasing everything with fdisk and after that format c
and trie to restore everything with a recoverycd( a number of times)

my hubbie downloaded memtest but coudnt get it to work when he wanted to instal it.

and we dont have a warranty on our pc anymore so we try to first do it ourselfs.

MemTest installation should create bootable floppy.

So I'm assuming that the following are true:
- You are running Windows 98 or ME
- You have no add-in cards (e.g. graphics, SCSI, modem or network card)
- You have not added any memory
- The memory is a single piece?

You haven't said exactly which model, or what the BIOS string is. If it is an Athlon model there is a good chance it is an industry standard motherboard rather than made specially for Fujitsu-Siemens.

Let us know how you get on with goldmem, if you couldn't create a boot diskette with memtest.

We use Fujitsu-Siemens Pentium III-450 or 600MHz machines at work and they are generally extremely reliable, if not very exciting. One of my colleagues had to have his PSU swapped recently because the fan was becoming noisy.

we have windows 98 se on our pc
and no we havent added any memory and yes its just on memorycard.

and what about the adons we have a soundchip...a 3dee card....and a cd rewriter and a dvdplayer

my pc is a fujitsu siemens expert(dont know what kind because you have more kinds of expert's)
and about the bios i dont know anything about it .
because if i did i wouldnt be here

Take a look at http://www.fujitsu-siemens.co.uk/rl/ser ... index.html and try to identify your model from the pictures there.
(It sounds as though yours could be the Comet 830a70290 with the BIOSTAR M7-VKA motherboard from the specification you have given, if it is a UK specification Xpert).

If it's really so bad that you can't run a memory test, it may be worth buying another 128Mb and replacing the RAM, as RAM is quite cheap (especially mail-order) at present.

we did get memtest to work at last but there came nithing out of it it was good
