W6LXB-0 HD recognise problem

Recommended by Wim's BIOS...

I have a motherboar Win Technologies W6LXB-0 and the bios does not recognise HD more than 32 GB. I´d like to update the bios but I can´t.

98 MB ram an Pentium II 333 MHz

I have a fujitsu 2,6 GB HD as a primary master with WIN XP Home and
in the same channel I have a CD player.

In the second Channel I have a HD WD800 80GB with a jumper setting of 32 GB limit.

This way the HD is recognised but I find some freeze problem while I want to acces some media files

Looking everywhere (Win Bios too) I found W6LXB64G.bin (09-01-98)file in

From DOS and with uniflash.exe I tried to flash the bios but the program said that the file should be 8 Kb rather than 128 Kb.

Anyway, I red after, that this bios update release does not support HD bigher than 32 GB

I also red that there´s a way without flashing the bios in WIN XP to make the HD be recognised.

when I set the jumpers in diferent position than 32 GB limit the computer freezes at start up when detecting HD. And when I´m entering to the bios setup HD detection, it detects the OS HD but freezes traying to detect the 2nd HD

Another thing is that I connected the HD via usb with an external device and it´s recognised as 80 GB but the connectin is 1.0 (to slow for my purposes). I don´t know if it helps...

How can I solve this problem(don´t tell me buy a new computer )

Is there any possibility to use the WD800 as my OS HD? as my actual is too slow

assuming you want to kick out the 2.6GB HDD:
1. disconnect the 2.6GB HDD, set the HDD 32GB clip jumper on your new drive so that the BIOS won't freeze at startup
2. autodetect the new HDD in the BIOS and make it your bootdrive
3. boot the Windows XP install CD
4. make a boot partition on the new HDD (it would be wise to use something between 4-8GB and make sure to use NTFS), just remember to stay within the 32GB limit
5. install Windows XP on the partition (do a dozen reboots during installation ;))
6. install SP2 (really recommended!)
7. use the partition manager to create a huge (rest of your new HDD) partition. Be sure to use NTFS again. You should be able to use the full size of the HDD now (anything beyond 32GB, too)

assuming you don't want to dump your 2.6GB HDD:
1. set the HDD 32GB clip jumper on your new drive so that the BIOS won't freeze at startup
2. boot your 2.6GB HDD into Windows XP (right, you don't need to add the new HDD into your BIOS anywhere)
3. install SP2 (really recommended!)
4. use the partition manager to create a huge partition on your new HDD. Be sure to use NTFS.

I tried what you told me keeping the 2.6 GB HD

I connected the disc tha was formated in NTFS 32 GB an d in WIN XP HOME (with SP2) i went to :

Start - control panel - administrative tools - equipment administrator - hd administrator

(my WIN is in Spanish so I translated to English i spect it´s ok)

in Hd administrator (I guess is the place you said I should go to format the HD) I deleted the partition but if i want to formated again the maximun is 32 GB. I boot the machine but happened the same

I don´t know if i did something wrong or...

Using uniflash.exe like i did before i tried to flash the bios with W6LXB-10 and happened the same the last time...

first i saved a backup.bin file to restore the firmware and then when i tried to "flash bios image including bootblock" i get aan error mesage: "file size does not match flash rom chip size!"

There are two version of W6LXB, 1mbit and 2mbits.

I can´t find in C HD bios.txt and I ca´t acces DOS because my HD is in NTFS Format

Let him make a backup with uniflash and patch that. I have no record of it either and my edom archive is pretty complete. Might be a one-time OEM version.
