BIOS Update or Patch Needed! 40GB HDD Not Recognized

Recommended by Wim's BIOS...

I have searched the web and this site and can't find the BIOS update or patch I need. I have A Seagate 40GB HDD That is only recognized as a 32GB By my BIOS/Windows. My Mobo is a BCM KR632. Other info:

(I have the drive already set up with a DDO but do not plan on using this drive as only boot drive, and when using other drive to boot WIN98se sees as only 33.4GB)

Remove the 32Gb limitation jumper from your HDD - what happens now ?
If Bios hangs thry to enter HDD parameters (should be written onto your HDD) manually and enable LBA for this drive.

If any of this setup is working please remove the DDO (aftar backupping of already stored data)

I do not have HDD limit Jumper on, and in Disc Wizard software if says HDD is not limited. I did try the A10 version and started from scratch to no avail still will only recognize only as 33GB even with WIN2000. ANy other ideas or any patches?

did you update Windows 2k to at least SP4?

No, I haven't. I will try that tonight. I had originally installed Win2k allowing it to format drive in NTFS, but went back and redid it in Fat32, and now the DDO and Win2k work and report the drive as the full 40GB. I will go with this for now unless another solution presents itself, (as I have seen topics saying that some programs and win2k aren't as stable this way). My problem now is that from the win2k boot menu the win98 HDD will not boot correctly from here. I have to go into the CMOS and change to that drive to boot. Not sure if you can help me on this here or if I have to repost? Thanks for the help so far!

Err, you have two physical harddisks in there? Can you post your boot.ini file? I think something gone wrong in there.

Yes I have 2 physical drives. Here is boot.ini:

I have tried to relabel c to d on the bottom line, and adding a line like the one above it with tdisk being 1. Nothing has worked. Also have tried 3rd party boot-us also did not boot win98 correctly.

Also of note, I can see both drives when in win2k c:=win2k d:=win98,
but I just noticed now that I only see the win98 drive when in win98, and it is labeled c: drive of course. Both are fat32????

I think the DDO is NOT started if you boot from the win98 disk which means you can't see the drive.

That makes sense! I am assuming then that if I can get it to boot into win98 from the win2k drive on the boot menu I will be able to see both drives, right? I am going to give bootpart a try tonight, any ideas on what is wrong with my boot.ini? Thanks!

I really have to look up that boot.ini one, I might have a dual-boot machine somewhere in the house but I'm not sure...

Hi, Win 2000 is the only one that uses WINNT for its program directory but win98 uses Windows so if you also change the target directory in the new second path string to Windows then you may have a bit of sucess, I hope.
