Bios Update for Win98 machine

Postby greg1067 » Tue Nov 14, 2006 4:23 am

I am looking for an udated BIOS and flash utility for this machine:

BIOS Date: 05/21/98
BIOS Type: Award Modular BIOS v4.51PG
BIOS ID: 05/21/1998-i440LX-2A69JB0DC
OEM Sign-On: TLC0521B
Chipset: Intel 440EX/LX rev 3
Superio: SMC 67x rev 1 found at port 3F0h
OS: Win98
CPU: Pentium® II (0.28 µm) 261 MHz
BIOS ROM In Socket: Unknown
BIOS ROM Size: Unknown
Memory Installed: 319 MB
Memory Maximum: Unknown
ACPI Revision: Unknown

This machine is an ftp server running Win98 and I would like to experiment with XP pro. Running xp will give me more options as to upgrading the server software. Also, in some of my reading, I don't necessarily need to update the bios to run xp. Is this correct?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

there is a patched bios here:

you're right: there is no need to update the bios in order to run windows xp. if you really intend running a plain ftp server on the machine i recommend using linux anyways.

I am still a newbie at this. I looked at the link provided, but I'm not sure which file is what I would need.

Thanks again

Biostar M6TLC is what you have there so you need the bios for that board.
