Harddrive temperature

Recommended by Wim's BIOS...

Does anyone know what the temperature of the harddrive should be when it is in normal useage, and when it is idleing? Everest is telling me that my harddrive is at 52 degrease. Is that normal temperature?

That is quite high. Where is it located, are you getting any airflow in there?

Its located in a compartment on my computer, although it is enclosed, i bought it ouside of the compartment and let computer sit idle for a few hours still no change. Whats really strange is my seagate is running at 32 degreese, while my western digital running at 52 degreese which is almost as hot as my CPU running at 55 degreese

s.m.a.r.t. sensors maybe. they can be pretty inaccurate but 20 degrees difference is a lot...

I am using Everest Home Edition. I have seen a harddrive cooler at circuitcity. You could see the specs here: http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Antec-Ha ... tDetail.do Will that keep it cool?

Open your case and look how the temperatures change (or not). Use your finger and measure both drives, the WD should have a noticeable higher temp.

Yep, the temperature changed, but only dropped by 2 degreese. The WD really does have a noticeable difference aside from my seagate.

Usually HDD are specified to have a max temp of 50-60 degress, depending on manufacturer and HDD model series.

You should do something to prevent further damage to your HDD. You need to get some airflow to this HDD or, better, to remove this "compartment" (?!?) and mount it directly into your case.

I just wanted to double-check if there was a bug or something in Everest (reading wrong temp, etc...), but you seem to have proven otherwise.

okay, everything has seemed to even out by it self. Its now only running at 41 degreese.
