What is a good PCI video card for my computer

Recommended by Wim's BIOS...

I am thinking about a PCI Nvidia FX5500 256MB Video Card w/Dvi/Tv Out. But I don't know much about graphics card.

I have a Dell Dimension 2200
1.2ghz Intel Celeron Processor
256mb of ram

with only 256MB that's going to be wasted. Increase your internal memory as well, that would improve overall speed a whole lot more. I'll check if you can even fit a 5500 in that 2200...

You can fit an FX5500 PCI in that Dimension 2000. I've seen this config listed as working somewhere. But please add some internal memory as well...

Oh I have another question about the product. It seems my power supply does not have enough wattage of power to support it. Is it that important or do I really need to get a better power supply ?

I just now found out that most graphics cards 128 mb or above dont use sdram. I'm really confused guys can anyone tell me what a good if any 128mb or above graphics card is. If not then any good 64 mb graphics card.

What wattage power supply do you have?

Actually, it depends if you have enough wattage on the rail(s) that supply the video card...not necessarialy the total wattage of the power supply as a whole.

What is your intended use of the machine...web surfing...or gaming?

You only have a 145W power supply installed (per the second link).

I would surely upgrade.

Intel 810E? For gaming? Just forget it..and the Celeron 1200 wouldn't be that good for a gaming rig either. Buy a new machine, you'll be much better off with it. Buying a PCI vga would be wasted money.

its a NVIDIA® GeForce FX 5500 so I guess Nividia makes it but I dont know if your saying if it works or not ? On another note though I just want to have a moderately good gaming computer to play world of warcraft on.

Ok i had a 5500 vga,vga.s-video card..On a 2400 ghz To make it run right a had to get a gig of memory.. As for the drivers Nvidia makes its drivers most if not all universal , so they work on all their cards.. But even with that you just have to try a driver if it works great if not try another..

Oh and if your thinking of getting a ATI card make sure that its atleast 9500 or greater , cause as of a couple months ago ATI no longer supports any card less than the 9500 series...

Microsoft Windows XP
Pentium 4 2.8 GHz
1 GB of Ram

I am looking for a new PCI video card that has a DVI port for my new monitor. I believe I have a PCI white slot available for a video card. My current card in an internal video and sound card built in. I would also be interested in buying a new card for my sound as well but don't want to spend a great deal, I am not a gamer but I did order a new keyboard for gaming, the Logitech G11, but don't intend to use it for gaming. But there could be a chance that later on I might be interested in gaming, not sure what type of games, but I would like to know what would be a good video card and sound card for my computer that would enhance my gaming for later on if I should choose to get involved in gaming. Don't care too much for a good sound card as I don't intend to get a great sound system for my computer, just something better that what I have. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
