The problem is that the native resolution of the AOC 716Sw is 1280x720. the SiS video bios obviously doesn't know anything about it. it just adds support for 1440x900 and 1680x1050 (reported working resolutions).
there are three solutions to your problem:
1. buy a new computer without SIS chip
2. buy an add-on card without SIS chip
3. use Linux and its excellent 3rd party drivers

The problem is that the native resolution of the Samsung 943SN is 1360x768 (see here). the SiS video bios obviously doesn't know anything about it. it just adds support for 1440x900 and 1680x1050 (reported working resolutions).

Hi,
after looking for someone who could help me with my bios of my thinkpad t61p and no response, Im searching now for someone who can help me and I would pay for it!

The fact is:

There is no issue with it but recommend functionality for me is missing. First of all I updated my CPU from t7700 to x7900, the x7900 is a extrem edition of core2duo cpus for notebooks with an open multiplier. It can be run at 3,4Ghz (17x2), the defalut setting is 2,8 (14x2). It did try it with rmclock, but i can edit the fid (multiplier) only in the fields of speetstep (6x-14x)...
Could anyone edit my bios to have a functionally like multiplier or advanced settings?
Or does anyone know which board lenovo is usin and if its possible to flash a manufactor bios with more bios options then the original from lenovo?

My CPU isn't recognized : ASUS M2N32-SLI Premium Vista Phenom II Support

I just thought i would post my success story here. I have a "ASUS M2N32-SLI Premium Vista" board that supports AM3 chips with the latest bios update, however it does not recognize the newer Phenom II chips and it looks like ASUS wont be releasing any future bios updates for that board.

Now the machine was working fine with a modest over-clock from 3.1Ghz to 3.5Ghz, so really one would think that there is no point to updating the bios to support this chip. I thought, what the hell, I have a spare flash chip, ill have ago at it and see what happens.

I am proud to say that my board now recognizes my Phenom II X2 550 processor, here is my cpuz output to prove it

What I did was grab the latest bios from ASUS for my board, and the latest bios for the ASUS Crosshair II, which is a AM2 board with AM3 support. Using CBROM32 I extracted the AGESACPU.ROM (/GV3) from the Crosshair II board, checked it contained both AM2 and AM3 CPU strings, and after confirming this, used CBROM32 to insert it into the M2N32 bios.

After flashing the bios and rebooting, the chip is now detected... and as the CPU-Z output shows, I can now over-clock it to 3.75ghz, with a 250Mhz FSB on fan cooling alone. With water cooling I can now clock it to 4 ghz with a 260mhz FSB.

Now I've figured that the problem may be that I installed what seemed to be Vista BIOS on my current (dead) XP. Could that be the problem? And where could I get XP-compatible BIOS? Because the Acer FTP is completely cleared of them.

That, or is there any way to install Vista on a laptop with corrupt BIOS?

Crisis Recovery Disk method doesn't make my lappy restart, after either 10 minutes or an hour. When I pull the plug and attach everything back (AC and battery), it's still in black screen and one-touch Power Off state.

Also note that I am very poor and my warranty is void for over a year now, so I need a simple, effective and quick way to fix this. ...

The Bios update listed on the Toshiba Website is defective and does not work. It's listed as Version 1.7. dated 9/13/07 If you attempt to update your BIOS using this version it will render the system unbootable.

There may be a bootblock method to recover. I don't use that process as I have access to programming equipment and offer BIOS recovery as a service.

like i wrote a million times before in this forum: the microcode updates are not mandatory. the bios will run without them and the cpu will just work fine without them.

the cpu detection routine is NOT inside the microcode update. it's a part of the main bios and has to be adapted (re-coded or patched) accordingly.

flash the latest bios from the mainboard manufacturer, read the manual if the cpu is supported or even test the cpu in the mainboard. if it isn't working request a bios update from the manufacturer or buy a new mainboard.

Hello there,

I've been doing a fair bit of reading over the past couple of days on modding bios and I've got to the point where I need some helpful advice.

I have an Asus G1 laptop and have upgraded it to 2x2gb of RAM. Unfortunately, the BIOS does not have the option to "Remap Memory" ie it doesn't support Physical Address Extension (PAE). The hardware itself is however capable of supporting the full 4gigs of RAM.

I would like to modify my BIOS to make this option available, however what I need to know is if such a modification is even possible? Has anyone got any experience of modding BIOS to make such options available, or any other advice they think would be useful?

My acer 5920g laptop was working fine and had the latest bios 1.3818. When i saw that the video memory was fixed by the latest bios to 8mb fixed(non changeable).

I used windowsxp and flashed the bios to an older version of 1.3508. After which now my laptop led's are on but nothing can be seen on the screen(blank). I gave it to the acer people but they told me that i may have to change my motherboard. Please help me. I tried using blindflash by using a pen drive but wasnt successful. If somebody can help me or make me a crisis recovery disk iso format to download i will be very thankful.

A good PCI card

General : A good PCI card

Not sure about good PCI graphics cards but one that caught my attention was the PNY Geforce 8400GS for many reasons:

It's on Play so easy and trustable to buy
PNY is one of the better companies that make GFX Cards.
It's £40 which isn't a lot.
Though memory doesn't always matter, 512MB is pretty high, obviously performance is lower because it's not a PCIe card.

Either way, I'm just buying this to be able to play sub-par games with decent looks and framerates. I have a PS3 for a reason

I have a custom PC that has been built around the Ali/DM&P M6117D chip.

This is basically a 386SX compatible system-on-a-chip, with inbuilt RTC with 128 byte CMOS.

The bios is 64k, apparantly an AmiBios, and the whole system boots off an internal flash disk to Dos (any version).

It has an IDE port attached, which works fine - typically you can run iomega software from Dos to map a zip drive to C: etc...

The system was setup like this - so the ide port is enabled but the bios has the HD set to "None" or similar.

What I would like to do is configure the system to autodetect the HD. However, the system has no VGA out - it drives a custom LCD - so you can not interact with the DOS shell easily - and you can not see/enter the bios.

I was hoping to edit the bios directly and reflash - however, no bios tools seem to accept the image file - or even edit the CMOS settings, but looking around for memory maps these appear to be rather unstandard...

With the symcmos utility I could control the 0x312 bit, so I tried setting it to 1, and it enabled VT-x.

Thought I should post this information here. It might just help someone someday.

Also, I've been pondering to write a bootsector that enables VT-x so that people with the same laptop don't have to fiddle around manually. (If I actually make that utility perhaps we could extend it so that it can enable VT-x on other laptops as well?)

Hi all, new to the forums.I've tried everything for this.I've got an old medion pc(2001)and i'm looking to update the bios,which is award software international v 6.00,and i now know that the german site is the only place i can get the update for this bios.However,upon trying to update from bootable floppy(five times,at the last count)it always fails on last four segments.Anyone know if original bios has some sort of setting that prevents me from updating?My mobo is a msi-6534.Help please

install SP4 and use the inbuild partition manager to partition the rest of the drive.
there is no resonable way to support 48bit lba in older bioses but as you are using one of the modern OS (W2k SP4) there's no need for that anyway. you've already done the right thing: install the OS in the BIOS known space and after boot the OS takes over ignoring the BIOS completely. at least when it comes to HDDs :)

The bios update will be in progress for about 30secs to 1min.

When bios-update is complete, press F1 to reboot

Press DEL to enter Bios Setup & Configure Settings

Save Settings & Exit

Boot into Operating System

Windows will search for drivers & probably ask for driver files etc etc

Reboot

Computer functions as it should. No problems.

i am owner of MSI GX600 laptop, which uses Aptio BIOS
Bios filename: 163a_10z.zip

This laptop is able to use Intel VT technology by modifying MSR table (on both cores). Register 0x3a have to be set to 0x0/0xD. When i modified it in linux, everything went fine and vt was functional, but if i try to modify in windows (by kernel debugging, or kernel driver) no change happens. Instruction WRMSR ends with message "no such MSR".

Is possible to add code to this bios, which will set these registers at every boot? Or can it be done with some kind of bootloader?

I bought a wireless intel 2200BG card.
Of course I got the 104 message.

When I wanted to use the ADDCC tool I noticed that the string for my wifi card already is listed in the original bios!
(this is the complete string: PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_4220&SUBSYS_12F6103C&REV_05\)

So what do I need to adapt to get this working?

Hello, I flashed my Acer C110 BIOS and now the system is non-functional. I have run through the Crisis Disk procedures and the system appears to read the BIOS Ok. The BIOS on Acer Web Site (totally crap support) is R01-A1S (called A1P-A1S.ROM). This is a winflash image, which I do not know if it is supposed to work from DOS or not.
I used the A1P-A1S.ROM file and renamed it BIOS.WPH to use with Crisis Disk. Floppy reads for a minute or so, at the end the laptop makes a strange sound and then stops. Power light on, nothing else doing anything.
My previous BIOS was R01-A1Q and I am not having much luck getting a copy of that BIOS from Acer. Also, I think this is an Award or Pheonix BIOS, but that company does not have anything useful except directing to a company who wants to sell me a program to run on the PC, which is dead, so I do not know how they think that is going to be any help to me. In any case they tell me they only have the R01-A1S BIOS image, which is what got me into this mess.
Does anyone have any other BIOS image for the TravelMate C110?
Acer needs to look at other PC manufacturer web sites and provide an FTP site that has all current and previous BIOS and driver software. This is a really easy thing to do and provides the end user with the easiest way to manage their own PC.

Most probably a problem with runnign the FSB higher than the memory. Many boards offered this but it was either not working at all or the comp became very slow.
The other option may be the CPU itself, either it draws too much power for that board or is insufficient cooled or damaged. Please try to run the board with 100/100 - if it still locks up then it's the CPU or a compatibility problem with your board.
Are all tested CPU P3 or Celeron with Coppermine core or is the P3 1.0 133 a Tualatin core ?

Assuming your HDD is SATA, check your Bios for a SATA controller operating mode. If it's currently set to native IDE/compatible try AHCI instead or vice versa.
