Clock generator chip is on the backside of the motherboard, so you need to remove the screws, hdd and the display driver small board and cable first to get mainboard out the chassis.

Stats : 947 Replies

In-depth High-tech BIOS section : Intel logo removal

Need help on a couple of things. I have an Asus P5E VM-DO. AMI BIOS.

Im able to change 1A(small AMI logo) and 0E(full screen logo), but I cant find where the small intel logo is located.

What I want to do:
Remove small intel logo in splash in bottom right hand side.
Remove Post massage "Press Tab to display post message" on bottom left hand side. I believe this can be accomplished thru AMIBCP but it keep crashing.. upon bios load.

Stats : 1 Post

i'll post the DRAM densities supported by the NSC Geode GX1 later.

Stats : 2 Replies

A8M2N-LA version 3.07 bios needed.

Other BIOS update issues. : A8M2N-LA version 3.07 bios needed.

BLAH! (Sorry, im a little aggitated).

In an attempt to fix an issue with the USB ports on the system, I updated the bios only to come to the exact same problem!

I've reset the CMOS 2ce, pulled the ram out, unplugged the system and pulled the CMOS battery, and then began putting things back one by one. My monitor only supports a resolution of upto 1024X768.

I was on v3.0 core 6.0 prior to this update, now im supposedly on v3.10, but I wouldn't know.

On an added note, I don't get the Windows Splash screen, cant get to the BIOS setup, or attempt to boot into safe mode.

Stats : 9 Replies
No - there are often some hardware changes not supported by a retail Asus Bios. Try the Dell website for a newer Bios.

Why do you need a newer Bios ? Any specific reason or just because it's a bit older ?

I want 64-bit cpu support, which the current bios does not have. I'll try the Dell site.

General : Detection software

Is there a software for WinXP which can alarm me when bios change is made (by user) ?

For example: I lock my bios with password because of unauthorized booting from CD/DVD/USB, and someone clear cmos by removing battery from MB. Is there a software which can detect bios reset or maybe bios changes of any kind ?

I replaced the bios chip with one programmed from www.bios-repair.co.uk . The bios chip is under the CD drive, front right of the machine and can be easily removed. The bios repair service was cheap, fast and it worked perfectly after that.

Stats : 7 Replies

Award BIOS in ECS 845GV-M3 MoBo sees only 256MB/Slot

RAM compatibility with BIOS : Award BIOS in ECS 845GV-M3 MoBo sees only 256MB/Slot

the problem is the chipset, not the BIOS.
the corsair memory module is 128Mx64. the i845 supports 128Mx8 SingleSide/DoubleSide or 128Mx16 SS which result in 128MB/256MB or 64MB. so the corsair module is 128Mx64 DS of which the i845 supports 128Mx8 DS = 256MB. perfectly normal, but nothing you would have wanted. the corsair module can be used with SIS or VIA chipsets but not with the i845. if you would want 1GB RAM for your machine you should buy either ONE MODULE 512Mx8 DS (1GB) or TWO MODULES 256Mx8 DS (512MB each) or TWO MODULES 512Mx8 SS (also 512MB each).

Stats : 2 Replies

search for manual of Supertek ST-3WT motherboard

Where can I find a motherboard manual? : search for manual of Supertek ST-3WT motherboard

Hi,

Thanks for the reply.

I've been tinkering along and found out how to access the BIOS; I couldn't
manage in the first place, it always directly booted the DOC and I didn't
see any POST screen at start-up (not being able to enter the BIOS was my
primary problem).

By pressing the DEL-key lots of times I was finally able to enter the BIOS.
From there on, it was a piece of cake.

As a test I installed Windows 2000, but like you said, the thing is just too
slow to be really usefull running Windows.
I even found some audio, VGA and UDMA drivers, but the specifications are
just so limited that I'm thinking about using another OS instead.

My BIOS only allows me a maximum VGA-memory of 4MB, so maybe I'm
using a different BIOS version than
theich
.
[EDIT]

After having re-read his post, I must have misinterpreted his mem-amount...

I also found out (I think) that JP8 is for the DOC address settings:

1-2 , 7-8: C800

1-2 , 9-10: CC00

3-4 , 7-8: D000

3-4 , 9-10: D400

5-6 , 7-8: D800

5-6 , 9-10 DC00
Somewhere on another forum I read that people were only able to use
one IDE device (as a master), but I had no problems using both master as
slave drives on the bus at the same time.

Greetz,

Peter.

Stats : 20 Replies

General : How do I know if I'm posting to a "dead" topic/for

Hi,

I posted a response and my related question to a topic that I'm now starting to fear is dead. Below is a link to my post, and I have also pasted the original message below. The counter on wimsmios shows there have been almost 6000 visits to this dead thread since 2005. There are a lot surplus toughbook CF-25's out there, and I think people would be willing to pay if someone could just write a BIOS update that would allow these toughbooks to recognize a USB adapter card.

Thank you,

Gary
http://www.wimsbios.com/phpBB2/topic3328.html

Pasted post:

he Bios for the CF-25 MK III toughbook is proprietary. Panasonic put out its last major revision almost 10 years ago, and put out its last bios patch in 2003. In the last year or so, Panasonic has quietly abandonned all support for this dinosaur taking down seemingly all references to it on its Americas and European websites. But, there are thousands of us out there that still have & love these things because they go where our dell's and vaio's cannot -- and you can literally drive a small pickup truck over one of them and then boot it up. They work fine on 98 SE, but the BIOS flaw that makes the laptop unable to recognize and/or use a pcmcia card with USB ports is starting to take its toll now that floppies are becoming an archaic storage and transfer medium.

I don't know how (or if) it is possible, but I would certainly be willing to pay or donate something if a qualified BIOS programmer could write a patch that would give my laptop a new life. Judging from the wide scatter across many tech sites of people looking for a fix, my guess is that lots of other cf-25 owners feel as i do.

If possible, I'd appreciate if the Moderator of this forum could share some advice about how one might be able to convince a programmer to write a patch that would open the ability to use usb on these virtually indestructible machines.

Thank you! ...

Stats : 1 Post

My hard drive isn't recognized : copying and replacing hard drive difficulties

Thanks for the info. Just so I know I understand what you've said I am going to say it back. If I got a cheap sata card (and I probably did-EBay), it doesn't have its own bios and will not be able to become the boot drive as it is configured now (leave it as is and use e: drive for data, etc.). If I start from scratch, remove the old drive and only have the new one, the new drive with the cheap sata card can be the boot drive? would I need to format the new drive to clean off the stuff I just put on it or will it happen automatically with installing the new OS?

Thanks again, Scott

Stats : 5 Replies

Windows Home Server - Rebuild of HP Pavilion a630n (ASUS)

Other BIOS update issues. : Windows Home Server - Rebuild of HP Pavilion a630n (ASUS)

1) At the HP site. This board was built by Asus for HP in large quantites for a special low price and on the condition HP does the support for it (OEM version is the term for that) so no drivers at Asus.

2) check if the i915 chipset is supported for Home Server, if it is, chances are it will run ok. What you really should check is if your Fasttrak controller is supported at all, that might be a bigger hurdle.

Note: what will you be using this "server" for? I hope nothing more than shared data as this is a cheap consumer PC not suited for real server tasks.

Stats : 2 Replies

Computer Crashed During Flash, now wont start

My motherboard is dead : Computer Crashed During Flash, now wont start

Hello,

I have been having a problem with my computer crashing during one of my games (and until today only during said game) so I figured I would go thru and update all my drivers etc to try and solve the problem....well I get to the bios and decided ill update that too, I have a Gigabyte GA-MA770 and it came with a windows based flasher that takes the guess work out of the process so I ran that, halfway through the flash my computer dies (Clock interrupt not received on a secondary processor on time). Now when I try and turn my computer on all it does is beep 3 or 4 times and thats about it, fans spin...I THINK my HDD spins but to be honest i hadnt really paid much attention to that detail...Im at a loss as to what I should do, I cant really buy a new biochip because the chip is soldered to the board. Does Anyone have any suggestions?

Stats : 1 Post

A) This is the symptoms you may see if you have this Problems
1) The computer is locked with a factory bios password at the time you power your Computer on.
2) you restarted your Laptop but now it turns on to see a Password that you did not have before.

Do not assume anything
B) Thing's you don't have to do it will not fix the the Password
1) shorting the CMOS battery
2) disconnected the battery
3) your guy next door say its chips hang or a VIRUS its NOT
4) you spoke to Toshiba who referred you to topazsupport.co.uk who claim that you may have corrupted the BIOS by shorting the battery terminals.

Notebook BIOS and other problems : Can't Access Think BioS due to Error.

I have a IBM Thinkpad 600x with a CD drive and a dead battery(not the CMOS)(I use the wall charger). I am trying to access the bios to allow me to boot the Cd I have with Windows XP on it, cause the OS right now doesnt work.
The problem is that everytime I boot up the laptop, I get error 8611, which brings me to a series of error codes and i have to F1 to boot normally. But the error seems to bypass my ability to access the bios. Any suggestions?

Notebook BIOS and other problems : Being driven mad by a laptop

It seems Acom has sold this laptop but I can't find their website just yet. It's a good thing you gave a bios string. This was also marketed as Gericom Overdose 1440E but under all the labeling it's an ECS G557. It seems Gericom has noted we all noted it is a G557 and renamed the download folder accordingly

http://download.gericom.com/NOTEBOOK/Win98-Win2...es/Overdose-G557/

Best of luck.

Stats : 2 Replies

VT/Vanderpool on MSI PR620

Notebook BIOS and other problems : VT/Vanderpool on MSI PR620

Quote:

are you sure of that?

Absolutely positively sure. This whole VT thing has been keeping me busy for some days already, I've done the research. I also have confirmation of VT-capability from the laptop company I bought it from (not MSI - this local company just used an MSI PR620 barebone). The components are also very common because of Intel's vPro and Centrino Duo.

Quote:

I have seen some sort of pre-boot patch somewhere for linux,

Now that would really make my day. Do you or does anyone else have more details?

Quote:

not sure if it is there for windows already and even more unsure if it is also for laptops.

I use Linux as my main OS. Windows would be confined to run in a virtual machine, so that's fine. The laptop uses the same hardware you find in desktop PCs, the laptop versions are just optimized to produce less heat. 965GM (my chipset) is just a "cool" 965G. I'm willing to experiment

Stats : 3 Replies

Alienware Area 51 m7700

Notebook BIOS and other problems : Alienware Area 51 m7700

Hi guys,

I have an Alienware Area 51 m7700 which has a Clevo D900T motherboard. Its processor is a humble old Pentium 4 HT 3.06 GHz LGA-775 socket. I tried changing the processor but the laptop would not run. I figure that since HT poses as a dual-core processor anyway, then as far as the system is concerned, the whole system is dual core, and there should be no problems with the new processor. Thus, I think the only barrier between me and more speed is a modded BIOS which allows for newer processors. I need help with this since I don't have a clue as to what I'm supposed to do, so I need your feedback, guys.

Stats : 1 Post

Updated 600E to PIII 500, page faults, Memory erors HELP!

Notebook BIOS and other problems : Updated 600E to PIII 500, page faults, Memory erors HELP!

Well after reading SHAREDOC's awsome posts i scraped a newer dell with a PIII 500 MMC in it and tried it in my 600E,

First i had the 127 ERROR, edited the cmos and fixed that...

Then i had major stability probs, so changed B2 from 80 to 81... and disabled the onboard mem but i still cannot setup a good version if XP..

When i try the older HD with a good install of XP from another 6OO it gives me a BSOD during load saying something about ASCPI.

Then i try to do a fresh install on another HDD i get a BSOD half way through setup with page faults.

I have 2 stick of PC100 in it right now. im wondering if im using the wrong type

SHAREDOC or anybody and ideas?

I would appreciate any help

Stats : 1 Post
