http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Support/Motherboard/...px?ProductID=1449

good morning @all

I have that above mentioned mainboard running fine with Lin Lin S370 converter and Tualatin PIII-S 1400
http://processorfinder.intel.com/details.aspx?sSpec=SL6by

the only aesthetically point is that Tualatin CPUs will be shown as Xeon CPUs @boot up

so is there any mod bios known containing Tualatin microcodes ?

thank you for reading

are you using windows? if so the microcodes are loaded automatically on (windows) startup.

the 'Xeon' display is just a bios issue, maybe just cosmetic. when they wrote the cpu detection routines tualatins weren't invented yet. so their routine ends up detecting the Tualatins as Xeons based on...yes...based on their magic detection routine ;) maybe a combination of cpuid and cache size? who knows :)

anyway, since everything seems to run fine i wouldn't change a thing. and as i already wrote the microcodes you were asking about are loaded with windows.

yes its like that

within windows, anything is ok, CPU will shown as PIII-S

I only thought about the availability of one microcode modified bios like for the P3B-F, CUSL2 black Pearl etc. but you are right, its only one "cosmetic thing" Wink

thanks a lot for feedback

greetings

the microcode will not fix the cpu name display. it will just load the microcode updates before they are loaded by windows. that's all. the reason why windows recognizes the cpus as P-III cpus is that they were aware of the CPUID<->marketing name relationship and they can easily update their software (e.g. windows update)

for example

one old FSC mATX D1171 with i810e

I fixed one PIII-S 1266 on Lin Lin, after boot up I´ve got the message please update Bios - CPU is not ....... (sorry couldn´t remember full message)

so I´ve searched for my FSC CPU "microcode" update 3.5" Disk, before I copied all contents from one ~ D121x which is originally designed for Tualatin

updated only that content (I used to say "microcodes") and after CPU is shown as what it is, one PIII-S 1266, same with after changed PIII-S 1400 or Celeron III 1400 which is shown as Celeron™ 1400

that without any OS

FSC is easy to do that compared with Asus and i. ex. P3B-F cbrom i. ex. Noa Bios

or like that CUSL-BP

that direction

so the so called FSC microcode updates may contain some more data. a disassembly would show what they are really doing.

if you take a look at this:
http://www.wimsbios.com/phpBB2/topic9117.html

it's the list of available microcode updates. they really do nothing to support the identification of a cpu. if you want to know how to ID a cpu, take a look at this:
