HELP!!! VAIO VGN-X505VP

Hi all,

My external optical drive for the Sony VAIO X505VP is broken... and worse, my windows is totally screwed up...

I want to try a BIOS upgrade... hoping that it would include USB boot for my laptop in order to install an Operating System from a bootable USB...

If anyone has alternative suggestions... it would be great... so far I've tried the following, with no success:

1. Rent a friend's IEEE1394 drive

2). Tried PCMCIA DVD Drive

3). Tried PCMCIA USB adaptor + usb stick

4). Tried PCMCIA USB adaptor + usb dvd drive

5). Go crazy Crying or Very sad

6). Thinked about installing Linux on another computer and network boot the VAIO in DOS, use ghost, but gave up due to surrealism of the idea. Embarassed

Any help would be great...
