Uses of AGP??

HI,

As we know, AGP is faster than PCI bus. I'm just wondering whether AGP can be used to someother purpuse [apart from display] like PCI devices? Question

If so, please let me know what are all the things can be done and what are all the things should be considered to do that.

It's called Accelerated Graphics Port - it's for graphics cards only.

Get this .pdf file and just look at page number 5. This pdf file is from Microsoft. They specifies something about AGP's other functions on that page.

What my doubt is, why don't we develop someother card [like agp card] which serves for someother purpose but using AGP.

Let say, I don't need display in my system. If I have some device/card which can be used in AGP slot, we can use that AGP slot for some dedicated purpose right?

Why don't we use AGP for bulk of data transfer as microsoft mentioned?

It is possible to transfer any data through the AGP - you only need the proper card - I haven't heard about non-graphics AGP cards.

I think, its more or less PCI. am I right? How BIOS detects AGP devices? Is it as same as PCI or ??? Rolling Eyes

AGP looks like another PCI bus from the software view (usually BUS 1 while PCI is BUS 0). It uses the same vendor/device IDs as PCI.
